Guides for Helping a Friend with Mental Illness
Hi, I'm fairly new to 7cups so I'm still learning more about the site. There's some great self-help guides that I'll put to use, but I was wondering if there were any resources pertaining to helping a friend with a mental illness, specifically depression. It's something I've been doing for a while on my own, but it would be nice to have more information on how I can support them more. Is this something that's in the works?
@OvertureStealer Do you have a listener account? A fair bit of what listeners do is support people, so that training can be expanded to outside 7 CUps too.
@AffyAvo I do have a listener account and I had already been applying some of the things it talked about. I'm mainly looking for a guide to help myself lessen the emotional toll it takes on me to help a good friend with depression. For now I'll continue to connect to a listener if I need it.
@OvertureStealer So some stuff on reducing compassion fatigue?
If you ask on the listener side, there are likely some resources over there.
On the public side, there's the caregivers section, here are some of the relevant subsections:

I don't think there's a specific guide, but there are some good ideas within the forums.
@MistyMagic maybe you have some specific resources in mind?
@AffyAvo @Overturestealer
Actually I don't, but thanks for tagging me in here. I used to run the Caregivers sub-community and have done more than my fair share of caring! OvertureStealer it is especially ard as caring as a teen. Depression can take away the joy and fun side of life. But you have done the right things so far, seeking out the resources here at 7C. Make sure you take lots of self-care breaks so that you can rest away from the strain if that is possible.
Feel free to reach out and pm me too if you want to chat, sometimes that can be the best thing!
