Welcome Committee Teams Proposal: Live Game Sessions for Newbies!
Hey, Welcome Committee teams (member and listener)! 👋
As we continue to look for ways to help new members feel at home here on 7 Cups, I’ve been thinking about some new ways we can help recent joins break the ice. I'd love to get your thoughts on an idea: hosting regular, recurring game sessions right here in the Welcome Lounge.
Joining a large support community can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming or intimidating for new members. I think setting up a low-pressure, fun environment where they can just hang out and play simple games would go a long way in helping them settle in, feel comfortable, and make their first connections here on the site.
Because everyone with an Open Arms badge has access to the Welcome Lounge, we have a wonderful pool of folks who could help make this sustainable. It would be amazing if we could get a rotation going so hosting doesn't fall on just one person.
I'd love to hear your feedback:
- Would anyone be interested in taking turns co-hosting or moderating these sessions?
- What are some easy, fun games you think would be popular with our new members?
- What days/times generally work for you for future planning (hosting and/or attending)?
Bonus incentive: This would also be an exciting way to bring all of us as team members together! 🎉
Let me know what you all think! If there's enough interest, we can figure out a schedule and try a pilot run. 💙
FYI: Everyone with the Open Arms badge (Welcome Committee Team members) has access to this room! If you need a refresher on the room's purpose, you can check out the original announcement (HERE).

I’d honestly love to be involved in this. I’d definitely be interested in taking turns co-hosting, and I’m more than happy to help moderate as well. I really enjoy creating a welcoming space, especially for newer members who might feel a little unsure at first, so this sounds like something I’d genuinely love to contribute to.
For games, I think keeping things simple, low-pressure, and interactive is key especially in the Welcome Lounge. A few ideas that could work really well:
“Highs & Lows”
Everyone shares one good part of their day and one challenging part (can be as small or big as they want). It’s simple but helps people feel seen quickly.
Finish the Sentence
Give prompts like:
“Right now I feel…”
“Something that always makes me smile is…”
“If I could be anywhere, I’d be…”
Easy to answer, no pressure, and opens conversation naturally.
Rapid Fire Questions
Ask quick, light questions one after another (favorite snack, dream vacation, night or morning person, etc.). People can answer as many or as few as they want.
Guess the Favorite
One person shares 3 favorites (food, color, hobby), and others try to guess which one is their top favorite.
Word Association Chain
One person says a word, the next person says the first word that comes to mind, and it keeps going. It can get funny and unpredictable.
Desert Island Pick
Ask: “If you were stuck on an island, what 3 things would you bring?”
You can switch themes too (movies, foods, people, etc.).
Rose, Thorn, Bud
Rose = something good, Thorn = something hard, Bud = something you’re looking forward to. It’s a nice balance of positive + reflective.
Caption This (text version)
Describe a silly scenario and have people come up with captions. No images needed—just imagination.
Common Ground ChallengePick 2–3 people and have them find something they all have in common (besides the obvious). Helps build quick connections.
Playlist Vibes
Ask: “What song matches your mood right now?”
People can share titles or lyrics—it’s a great way to express feelings without saying too much.
@Heather225 First off, I just want to say this is such a wonderful initiative 🤍
I still remember what it felt like walking into 7 Cups for the first time. It can be really intimidating. You see all these conversations happening in forums and groups, but you’re not quite sure where you fit in or if anyone will even notice you.
And that way, it’s easy for new members to quietly slip away when they don’t find that first sense of connection.
Something like this, a low-pressure, fun, and consistent space, could genuinely make a difference in whether someone stays or leaves.
And.. as for co-hosting, I'd love to. But I’m a little unsure for now, since it’s something new to me. I’d still be happy to support however I can.
@LexListens2025 shared so many great ideas already. One I’d love to add is a simple "continue the story" game, someone starts with a sentence, and we just let it unfold one line at a time. No rules, no structure, just pure, slightly silly creativity, until we get bored :D
@Heather225
What an amazing initiative H! Thanks so much for coming up with this, as always such a brilliant, positive addition to the already beaming community here at 7cups! I would absolutely love to be a part of this endeavour!
Some fun games:
1) Emoji cipher: One person comes up with a title of a movie, song, book, tv show, or even a fun phrase or tagline and has to communicate the same using only emojis. The other people have to try and guess what they're trying to say! This one was a hit in the LCR!
2) Would you rather: Some silly, goofy would you rathers to help break the ice.
3) Whimsy train: This versatile game can be used to concoct up a story, a song, a fictional animal, even a recipe: its quite literally just a big bowl of whimsy soup! Everyone contributes one ingredient: like a lyric, a sentence, a feature, and at the end of it you have a delightful story, a song, or a fictional animal, or whatever you can create! A lovely way to engage in imagination and creativity!
I would love to cohost, im usually free from 1:00 PM EDT!
