I rarely wear mittens now. If I'm going to be outside for a while and it's really cold, mittens. Gloves are usually sufficient for my activities though, and if driving mittens don't give me control over the wheel.
When travelling on the highway in the winter to more than just a bedroom community I always have a bag with extra warm accessories and mittens are in there.
I like gloves because it is easier to use my hands in gloves compared to mittens more.
Mittens are really impractical. Gloves are demonstrably easier to work with.
Both have their ups and downs... I like mittens because its like having a blanket over your whole hand, but you can't do ANYTHING with them. It's so hard to pick something up! But gloves don't fit my hands all the time because my fingers don't fit in the standard glove size, and then there is irritation between the fingers...
Can the removable top of mittens be a choice? I like those :)

Fingerless gloves. I don't have to take them off when doing fine detail work.
I usually don't wear anything on my hands when I'm cold but I would wear gloves for sure.
Neither, winter is a myth here lol.
