Body dysmorphia is a drastically skewed view of one's one body. Usually, it fixates on a certain aspect or body part. For example, many girls fixate on their bellies, and some are haunted by the thought that their chubby tummy is unnattractive. Body dysmorphia would be having these dislike of one's own body, but to the extend that it lessens the quality of your life- imagine the chubby tummy girl locking herself in her own house, unable to go out with friends due to the anxiety of having others see her "belly."

People with BD think about their real or perceived flaws for hours each day. They can't control their negative thoughts and don't believe people who tell them that they look fine. Their thoughts may cause severe emotional distress and interfere with their daily functioning. They may miss work or school, avoid social situations and isolate themselves, even from family and friends, because they fear others will notice their flaws. They may even undergo unnecessary plastic surgeries to correct perceived imperfections, never finding satisfaction with the results.

Body dismorphia affects people differently, but for me it completely alters how I see my body as well as causes me to be so fixated with my body it affects my relationships. It regularly has a fixation with a certain part of the body. Ex the stomach.

Body dysmorphia is when your brain is showing you a different body than you have in reality. Let's say you're looking in a mirror; you're standing there looking at yourself and your brain is saying negative things. In reality, you're beautiful and healthy and happy! But your brain "morphs" the image into something that isn't reality.

It is when you believe that you look one way when you look quite the opposite. It is extremely prevelent in eating disorders. Someone with anorexia may look in the mirror and instead of seeing themeselves, they will see someone much much much larger than they really are. This may lead them to restrict even more than they already are.

It is a disorder that should be seen by a therapist or doctor, because it can lead to unhealthy choices. Be hopeful! It is treatable, just ask for help.
