Hello, I'm 44, and have been diagnosed with anxiety. Struggling a bit right now, my mind is racing and all I want to do is curl up and disappear.

Curling up can be comfoting, like the fetus pose in yoga. Maybe do that on a couch ect and listen to the calm app as long as you need. Anxiety will pass , I know it might not feel that way now, but it passes :) @optimisticOrange2218

@optimisticOrange2218 how are you doing in your recovery? I had a breakdown in mid September and was diagnosed with GAD. I was severely depressed and high anxiety. I am getting better a little everyday, but it's such a slow process and then there are set backs. Hope you are doing well!

Hi everyone,

i just turned 40 less than a month thank goodness ago. And Im realizing more and more how quickly she is showing itself in my looks, in my mental capacity, in my biological clock. Ive been in denial all this time it seems. Or just neglecting to confront reality. And now it hits me hard. Im old, single, childless, and... well... I guess only getting worse by the day. Im the most depressed Ive ever been.

just wanted to say I understand...me too 🙂. you are not alone. it's hard being childless and single (still). the added weight of anxiety and mental confusion can be all-consuming. I feel you. hang in there. may peace of mind and spirit find you and bring u comfort. don't despair life has a way of bringing change; keep the faith. ♥️

@Retef thank you Retef. Its nice to be able to reach out and find others going through similar things. Women have it harder because no Matt how many times we pretend 30 is the new 20 and 40 is the new 30, we cant slow down the biological clock. I hope you find peace and happiness as well.

@understandingStrings176

a heartfelt thanks for responding! much love to you!

more about me: I find myself, lately, reeling from the idea that I may never have a child (Im 44) with a loving partner. always thought the time would come when it would happen. I have no words to describe the emptiness. I do soldier on though...what else to do? wail, nash teeth? lol. I have no living family except an estranged mother. but, realizing the finality of life, I am making plans to be near her. value whatever love u can find in this dark world I have learned. try to forgive, accept and be sincerely generous with our time and effort.

would love to here a bit of your story if u feel like sharing?? 🙂♥️🙂

Hi @Retef Im sorry I didnt see your reply. I expected a notification for replies, but Im new to 7cup, and still getting my bearings.

Like you, i thought my time would come. I was married youngish, and divorced youngish. At 32. I didnt quite get over it. And it took me too long to get over it. While married I knew it was not working out, and didnt want to complicate it by having a baby.

and I made every excuse. Global warming, climate change, what kind of world would we be bringing a kid into; my career hasnt started yet, we dont have money, were not ready, etc etc ....

It was really because I wasnt in the right relationship

And now, I dont know what happened to the years. I havent met anyone. Anyone other than married men pretending to love me and want to leave their wives to be with me.

better alone than be hurt and disrespected by selfish jerks. Thats my take these days.

you are so right though. Cherish those you love. Love is patience. And patience is the only way love will flourish.

i hope youre having a good week so far.

Hey all. I turned 40 last month and it hasn't been great. No love life, no family or friends, crap job so no money. I'm not sure how to climb out of this pit. I feel like it's worse for women.

Might make a big venty thread with a laundry list of my woes? Or is that kind of thing discouraged? I haven't been here in years.

@understandingStrings176

Thanks for your reply, you're a trooper in this thread and a good example.

I don't really have a biological clock. I've never wanted children and I still don't. I'm technically bisexual but I think I'm either a total lesbian (would explain several things) or just asexual (would explain some other things, like lack of desire for kids). Or I'm just feeling the latter recently because of constant stress, lol. When I lamented "no family" I meant no partner and their clan to welcome me into the flock and love me like their own. Even though I know this is just a fantasy, real families come with real issues and obligations, and generally I'm content being a loner cat mom.

What I meant by "harder for women" is more of how I feel like a man in his 40s who says I'm alone and I have no career will be met with sympathy, be told it's not too late and he's still young. Whereas a woman in that situation will be pitied at best, and scorned behind her back, she's supposed to have these things on lockdown before 30. Or I'm taking it too personally, every article I've looked up for facing your 40s starts out with "you know who you are and you're set in your career so you can afford all this finery! :)" and I want to run away screaming. Sorry you don't want to acknowledge older women below the poverty belt who are having crises over whether they even have a sexuality, and don't really have time to worry about it when they're dealing with pricey pet problems and shitty jobs!!

@understandingStrings176. I will be 40 in a few.short months. I have been single since my divorce over 6 years ago.i was married almost 12 years. I also have no kids of my own. I have never really wanted kids either so I know how you feel. I have had dates but no real connections. I realize now I am not allowing myself to make connections. I just recently met a really nice guy and told him i want to take things slow only to keep him distant for too long. I feel like as a woman i habe to work 10 times harder at work for the same recognition that men get. I also feel like i am scared to ever get in a relationship again because they all eventually end in disappointment.

Thanks for the reply. Its like I could have written what you wrote. Everything you said is what Ive been through, and still going through. Divorced for nearly 6 years, married for almost 12 years. Trying to connect gets harder the less we do it. But for me to, Im keeping guys at a distant too. I only dated a few times since my divorce 6 years ago. And the ones I did somehow ended up just making me feel more down about myself. So like you, Im afraid of connecting to anyone, and really am not trying much anymore. It doesnt help when the only men that seem to show interest in me anymore are married men with one bs story or another about how theyre leaving or in the process of leaving their wives. So insulting to only be looked at as a potential mistress to some selfish jerk @braveBeing358
