Feeling like I missed my chance

I’m 35 now and I feel like I threw my life away doing nothing. I feel like I missed my chance to change this. I don’t know what to do now and I can’t get myself to want anything. I’m incredibly depressed. I have no money, no career, and no relationship.

It can feel like you have wasted time.

But you cannot look back.

You can only look forward.

And start working towards these things now.

It's never too late 💕

It's never too late to change anything, especially when that something is our lives. I'll be 39 next month, and for the past 7 years, I was at a lost with my work. I was not doing well financially, and was actually involved in a scam where I lost a lot of money. The work that I did, I thought it was something I could do until I retire, but the staff on my team kept changing (as they retire), and I realized I was becoming more and more unhappy going to work. I could no longer call it a career, but it was a job.

Then, after losing two people last year, I regrouped myself and thought about my life, my career, my future. Early this year, was when I decided I need to make a change. I had rekindled the spark in me, applied to a position that once gave me satisfaction when I was doing the Practicum of a Certificate Program 7 years ago.

Today, in my new workplace (been 7 months), I'm finally doing something I have passion for and can finally call it my career. I also don't have a relationship, but I figure, that will come later on. Now, I just need to focus on building on my career and become more financially stable first. I try to keep hope that the relationship thing will happen, maybe it's just not my time yet.

So, as along as we don't give up on ourselves, I believe that things will happen when the time comes. It might seem that you've wasted time, but during that time, you were also moving forward, even if it doesn't seem like you were getting anywhere. Start with something small, and I know it makes it even more difficult when you're depressed. But you can do this, change doesn't come to us magically, we need to make the first move.

You have in no way missed your chance. There is always a chance. Sometimes I think along the same lines and then I think, what if my 99 year old self was given the chance to turn back time to 35, or even 40, 50, 60 and how much life I’d live with that second chance. And then I try to live a bit thinking this is the second chance 💕

@ambitiousHuman6382 I get how heavy that feels. I've wrestled with the same thoughts of being stuck and too late. But 35 isn't the end of the road. You don't need to fix everything at once, just choose one small step today. That's how you prove to yourself you haven't missed your chance. If you want to discuss more, I am just a message away.

@ambitiousHuman6382 I like your username! I don't think you wasted your life or that it's too late to change, but I can relate. It doesn't matter how much I achieve I tend to feel similarly. At your age I was going back to school at night for a career change. Do you have an idea of what direction you want to take with your career? Hang in there!
