Scream in a Teacup
I wasn’t supposed to break.
Not here.
Not in this porcelain room
with its soft napkins
and softer lies.
But I did.
Right in the middle of the tea party,
I shattered.
Voice sharp as a spoon against bone.
Breath too loud,
face too red,
grief spilling like sugar across the table.
They called it overreacting.
Said I ruined the mood.
But they didn’t see
how long I’d been boiling,
how many times I swallowed storms
to keep their cups full.
They saw the scream,
not the silence that came before it.
Not the ache beneath the outburst,
the years of tightening my throat
so no one else had to feel uncomfortable.
A scream in a teacup—
that’s what I became.
Contained.
Delicate.
Unwelcome when shaken.
“Calm down,” they said.
“Just breathe,” they said.
But I was never given space
to fall apart safely.
Only told to hold it in,
and smile.
So yes—
I screamed.
I spilled.
I stopped pretending
that my pain
was something you could stir politely.
And if that makes me too much—
so be it.
At least now,
you finally looked at me
instead of through me.

They didn't see how long id been boiling! Oh, wow, I cannot tell you how much I resonate with your words, the pain you capture, the strength behind your words, you have a talent, I have been going through alot but had no way to express or name exactly what I was feeling, your words speak to what I feel. Thank you for sharing and welcome to seven cups 💜🥰
Nice poem!!

I’m not much for poetry but I really enjoyed reading that!
@UnlockedSupport it sounds like my life. I've been struggling with a relationship with my kids and they just keep telling me that I'm a drug addict which I'm not anymore and that's why they don't want to have anything to do with me and I'm rude and crass and I'm not a stand-up person I want to scream in a teacup too everyday why can't they just accept me for who I am I gave him life and they're giving me death
Great poem, as an expression of your true feelings. I resonate so much.

@Amanda84 thanks for the tag Amanda!
I know what it's like to hold it all within. To writhe and boil and keep it all in. To put other above self for the sake of cohesion. Because you know, if you speak, you will be seen as a lesion.
So I order my thoughts and set my intentions. Try to redefine what is convention. I know if I yell I will not be heard. As things come up, I resist being blurred. I find the right words in the right time. It's the only way I can live a peaceful life.
I love the poem. It is a heartfelt expression of the struggles of expression. Some people seem entirely opposed to giving one space to vent. But sometimes, it's necessary. Everyone deserves the right to speak their mind and be understood.
