Wisdom from the “Younger” Oldies
To those who are 35+ (and not old enough to be in the 50+ community:
What advice would you give the teens and the 20s on 7Cups?
As an ancient one, I would say pace yourself, it's too easy to keep replying and taking on chats if you're a Listener and then you burn yourselves out.
Life advice? Ermm, spend time getting to figure out what makes you tick, try not to compare/compete with others, everyone is going at their own pace.
It's ok not to talk and say I'm not fine. It helps to have a venting outlet, people, blogs, social media, whatever works for you :)
@jesusredeemedme2425 I mean, technically, if you round my age... I would be closer to 40.... bbbbuuutttt when did being 35+ years old be considered younger old? 😂😂😂 I knew my kids loved clownin' me saying I'm old because I was born in the 1900s but really. Lol. 😀
One thing I would tell young people here on 7 Cups is to be safe and careful. You will come across people who may seem nice but... not all people are for your good! Don't necessarily not trust, just be careful of whom you trust.
For those in their 20s-- it's ok if you don't have things figured out in life. You're still young and have time to explore and find out what you want to do and who you want to be. Try not to let the stressors of life beat you down at such an early age. Learn to release those things. ❤️

By that reckoning i'm approaching ancient and far from having life worked out.
All I'd say is just be respectful regardless of age, I learnt most from older generations when young buy equally am learning just as much from younger generations now.
What kind of unsafe things are there on here? I must be oblivious. :/
Bots, people who want money, people who want inappropriate things from you, people who ask personal questions that should be kept personal (confidential stuff like location and such), people who are just plain mean.
That being said, there are SOOOOO many wonderful people here who greatly outweigh the few rotten apples in the barrel. You’ll be very happy and feel safe here <3 Just flag and report any that don’t feel right. The mods will look into it and take care of it for you <3
Okay. I have not come across anything like that yet! :)
@YourCaringConfidant
Unfortunately your advice affects all ages groups, I have become a victim of trusting and valuing a couple of members far too highly who came up wanting when I shared too much, the most annoying part about it was that it wasn't for my benefit at all, it was attempt to inspire one of the members. A painful lesson that has me on the verge of leaving Cups.
@RunningMachine I'm soooo sorry that happened to you. 😞 Whatever transpired, I hope you reconsider leaving for good. You've people who care about you here and your presence matters. But look, I get it. Ultimately you have to do what's best for you! Regardless of how others feel, you do for your safety, benefit, best interest, and wellbeing. If you need to fall back, take a break, whatever-- I support it if this is what will make you feel safe and happy. I hope you will be ok. ❤️ Thanks for tagging me so I could be notified to come back here. Grateful I got it and seen your comment. Xoxo. 👐🤗

I started working with a therapist last week and have also outlined and discussed it in a couple of random chats with listeners and at least I have been reassured that I was justified to feel frustrated and that the frustration wasn't an over reaction from emotional dysregulation.
@RunningMachine Bless those listeners for their reassurance and being there. People tend to not react without good reason, so however you feel most certainly is justified!❤️ I'm proud of you for seeing a therapist and knowing its support you need. I hope it goes well for you. Hoping you calm down and try and get some rest.
@YourCaringConfidant
Lol that's made me smile it's now 04:45 in the morning on a night off work and I'm struggling to get back work, night shifts and ADHD play havoc with sleep on nights off, I'd do almost anything to get a proper night's sleep.
@RunningMachine Awww, I'm glad it made you 😃! Yayyyy. Hey now! You and me both with that 😴 thing! I hope you can find something that soothes you tonight and brings you peace so you can get that much needed sleep 😴 you need! Fingers crossed🤞. Hope you manage to and have the sweetest dreams. Night night. 🛌 💤

I would them, be safe, don't always trust everyone, follow your instincts.
Speak out if something doesn't feel right.
Life is short.
Embrace all opportunities.
Have fun.
Turn your passion into your job.
Dont waste time caring what others think.
Be unapologetically you 🩵🤗
But don’t turn your hobby into your job. You’ll end up hating it lol
@jesusredeemedme2425
Or you'll love going to work 😂😂😂🩵
@jesusredeemedme2425 @Amanda84
Came here for wisdom, but.. you two left me more confused😭
One says turning your hobby into a job will make you hate it, other says you’ll love going to work.. That's not fairrr!! :')

After careful consideration, I’ve decided the safest option is to remain unemployed and broke. Not taking that gamble🫣😂
@MeilleureAmie
Ha, at least the confusion brightened your day 😂😂😂🩵
@Amanda84 Yeahh, it definitely did. Brightened so hard.. it nearly left me blind🤍😂
@MeilleureAmie
Love it !!!!

@RunningMachine

Ok, let me clarify hehe
Make your passion your job (eradicating homelessness, promoting literacy, etc). Don’t make your hobby (art, etc), your job, because it will become pressure to perform, time crunches, critics, and sales, not fun.
Make sense?
@jesusredeemedme2425
Absolutely, I loved cycling from a young age but didn't make it as a professional in my early twenties, it wasn't through lack of passion or ability but down to an hereditary condition reducing my ability to train enough. It hurt obviously but I retained the passion and love for the sport, continued at a lower level and spent 20 years a licensed club coach on a voluntary basis. I don't regret any of it, it was amazing helping other riders strive and achieve their goals.
I'm assuming you haven't tried making an occupation from your own love of drawing ?
@RunningMachine That’s really inspiring.. Despite all the difficulties, you didn’t lose your love and passion for cycling. You kept going. Even helped others grow by coaching them. Such a kind of strength.. is rare, honestly. And trulyy admirable✨
@MeilleureAmie
I only discovered i'm likely to have ADHD 18 months or so ago, but emotional control issues particularly empathy and impulsivity have always been apparently, helping others a coach often setting SMART goals and seeing their joy and satisfaction when they achieved them, meant as much to me as it did them. Not coaching anymore, the satisfaction and the social side is a massive factor in my current malaise and loneliness. Cups is helping, thank you for the kind words, it's appreciated.
@RunningMachine Ahaann.. discovering things about yourself later can be a lot to process, I can imagine. But it’s beautiful to see.. how much joy you’ve found in helping others, despite all the challenges life has thrown your way. I hope 7 Cups continues to help you feel better, just as you’ve always help and supported others.. and always brings you many more reasons to smile✨😊
Nope. I’ve tried art commissions but they’re stressful. Even my own self-made commissions stress me out. Internal pressure. Lol
@jesusredeemedme2425
Probably wise if it creates pressure rather than enthusiasm.
@jesusredeemedme2425 Yeahh, the wisdom behind those two sentences has finally reached me🤍🤧
Thanks, Kiara.. for explaining so well<3 Gonna store this in my long term memory✨😁
You’re welcome <3
imagines Inside Out scene hehe
@jesusredeemedme2425 Had to google what the Inside Out scene is about, cuz I’m more of a novel reader.. who rarely watch movies :D
The last animated movie I watched.. was Grave of the Fireflies, and I still haven’t healed from it🤧
Unrelated to anything actually in the writing but psych gif!!! Great show 10/10 except for the last season :p
@jesusredeemedme2425
I love this question. There’s something honest about people a little further down the road turning around and saying, hey, here’s what I’ve learned the hard way.
If I could say anything to teens and people in their 20s, it’s this, your emotions feel permanent right now but they aren’t. The heartbreak, the identity confusion, the pressure to “be someone” fast, it all feels urgent and final. It’s not. Most of life is built slowly and quietly. Take care of your body early, sleep matters more than you think, and who you spend time with will shape you more than any motivational video ever will. Also, learn how to sit with discomfort without immediately numbing it. That skill alone will save you years. You don’t have to have everything figured out. Just build small integrity with yourself. Keep promises to you. The rest unfolds more naturally than you can see from where you’re standing right now. I’m rooting for you, truly 😊🙏
I will keep it simple. Have fun while you're young. because before you know it, you're not going to be young anymore.... Life moves really fast.
Can you tell me which teen is asking???
I don't think it's advice, it's more of a re affirmation they are looking for to prove they are doing stuff right...
Make mistakes
Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it.
Money is an illusion, and material things don't bring real happiness.
Do what you love, and don't waste time.
@jesusredeemedme2425 I’ve greatly benefited from listening to Dr Laura Schlessinger’s podcast daily. She also has a radio program on siriusxm 123, I listen almost daily and always glean from her wisdom (she’s been on the radio for 50 years and knows a lot about life)
@jesusredeemedme2425 I would say, learn healthy boundaries and how to uphold them. Love, respect and cherish yourself and only surround yourself with people who respect you as that is very important and will help alot as you grow older. 💛
