I have learned that anger is a challenge I face from expecting things from the other person and being disappointed. Also the blame game is one I have played ion the past.

The blame game never leads to anything than creating more anger in my opinion. I know people playing it on a daily basis and it does not help. Glad you stopped the game!
My past relationships taught me to be careful about whom I befriend and trust. I learned not to be selfish. I learned to be fair. I learned to be kind.

In my experience, my overthinking happened when my subconscious was trying to tell me something and I wasn't listening. So, it would keep bringing me back to the same point. The solution was to learn to trust myself and my intuition. Mostly I wasn't listening to myself out of fear, so accepting and confronting my fears was also a big part of it.
Not an easy path, but the results are so worth it.

They’ve teached me who I truly am, to always believe in and never give up on myself, stand up for myself, walk away from the situation when it doesn’t feel right to be there. Those are some of the valuable lessons I learned.

For it was to be more guarded towards making any more relationships happen. With only three main relationships in my life and the first two were tough to get over. When I met my next and last relationship, she opened my eyes to the fact that there are people out there who truly can care. So I held on to her and I am still holding on to her after almost 42 years.

Do not compromise on your rights. Do not feel guilty about what you know you deserve.
Physical love without intellectual/ emotional connection will not be meaningful.
If your intuition is saying the person isn't right do not go for it with the hope that there's a surprise lying ahead for you.

My divorce taught me that communication is KEY. My ex and I get along great (we're still kinda in a relationship) but our biggest problem in our marriage was communication. I am a "hey let's talk this out" person, my ex is a "drop it" person and I don't drop things. I want to work them out so that there is no next time. But there was next time after next time after next time. He was great at using "you always" and "you never" which aren't effective ways to communicate. It's just blame and deflecting. So I now choose to have relationships with people who have interpersonal relationship skills. Who can come to me and say, "I feel hurt in our relationship. Can we talk?" This also happened with a sibling I had to make boundaries with. I thought everything was great in our relationship, until I found out the things he was saying about me behind my back. This is a very intelligent person, and I thought my brother and I were very close. Close enough for him to come to me and talk about his feelings. I really need to be with clear communicators. My friends are all awesome in that respect.

Being with someone who plays the blame game and uses extreme words when something is not going as they want it must have been difficult for you. Paying attention to how people communicate with you is a smart way to prevent that this scenario repeats itself. Sorry to hear what happened with your brother. I can only imagine how much you've been hurt.
