Changes to the 50+ Community + News!
Hello, everyone.
With the constant expansion and evolvement of our site and sub-communities, we always want to ensure that the voices of those who rely upon and interact with their various communities stay up to date on what is going on.
As many of you know @soulsings has been the longstanding Community Mentor Leader of the 50 & Over Community and has been a pivotal part in how far the community has grown and developed throughout the years. I would also like to thank soulsings, amiablePeace77, and the other team leaders that have worked for 5 years to grow the 50+ community from a subforum on the 35+ Subcom to what it is today, a vibrant community. However, as time passes, leaders often shift their attention to other onsite projects that they are involved in. Soulsings will be redirecting their efforts to the Therapy Subcommunity and that means that the role of Community Mentor Leader for 50 & Over will be vacant.
We are looking for serious and interested persons who can fully dedicate their time and efforts to maintain this community. Topics covered in the community but not limited to include wellness, positivity, exercise, menopause, old age, changes in life, and retirement. If you want to grow a community with upward potential, please send a message to www.7cups.com/@CheeryMango and we can start to explore that option together.
Lastly, 7cups continues to form partnerships with organizations in the US and around the world to increase the number of persons who can benefit from what we have to offer here. We are considering a rename the 50 & Over Community to offer more inclusivity and support to our older community. What do you think? Should 50 & Over stay with its current name or should it be renamed? If you think it should be renamed, what are some possible suggestions that you have in mind?
I like it as it is!
If you do change it, maybe include the word "issues" or "challenges" in the name. I wasn't aware this community was for the issues people over 50 face, I thought it was for people over 50. (The difference being suppose a person aged 53 needs to discuss a topic such as depression... That topic isn't specific to people over 50, so a room about issues people 50+ encounter wouldn't be appropriate, but a room for people ages 50+ would be.)
Just a suggestion... Thanks.
🐻
@JustJacki its for anyone though not just 50 year olds
@blissfulTouch29 I realize that now. But the name makes it sound like it's for people 50 and older, which is why I suggested putting "issues" or something similar in the name. Then there would be no confusion. Example:
"Issues at 50+" or "Facing 50+ Issues" makes it clear the forum isn't just for those over 50, it's for the issues people 50+ face. The name "50+ Community" (or similar) makes it sound like it's for people over 50.
I'm just starting a viewpoint of a newbie who doesn't know all the ropes yet. But I'd think that would hold some weight, considering a lot of people who get confused too much on a platform tend to abandon it.
Just sayin'...
🐻
@JustJacki oh okay
Wow, Thank you Soulsings for everything! I've enjoyed our interactions immensely there and in mindfulness!! Good luck in the next place!
Keep the name! It will be less confusing! Consistency feels GOOD, especially here.
@onwardforevenmore thank you for your kind words. Just to clarify I am still planning on remaining at 7cups and will be working closely with the Therapy Subcom and also cohosting discussions in 50+ and mindfulness.
I am still here.
Just a little question: where is the therapy sub com located?
@soulsings No worries! I found it! Just wanted to know where to find you. Take care and be well and see you around in Mindfulness sometime.
@CheeryMango
Thank you for your appreciation CheeryMango.
@Soulsings thank-you for all that you have done for the 50 & Over community here at 7 Cups! You are highly dedicated and caring and that shows in how the 50+ sub-community has grown under your leadership. It will be a sad loss, but we will be able to watch you carry on with your magic in the Therapy sub-community.

@CheeryMango Thanks for posting this, regarding the name I always call the 50 & Over sub-community the 50+ lol!
I know that we have the 35 & Over sub-community and the 50 & Over sub-community so they reflect the same use of words and which continuity is good. But in the browse listener filter, we can use a filter by adult, 18-35, and then 35+ I would go for a simple change of both, so 35 & Over, to 35+, and 50 & Over, to 50+. (And, I just noticed that even your post says 50+ lol!)
I would like to see this sub-community grow even more and cover more aspects of the many positives, and also the challenges, that 50+ life offers.
As an older user, I also prefer to be called 50+ rather than 50 & Over but maybe that is just me?

@CheeryMango
I will miss @SoulSings here, She has been a good mentor and Supporter here in our community along with @AdiriralPeace77.
I like the name 50+
@scarletPear1945 Don't worry I am not leaving. I am still here.
Just to clarify I am still planning on remaining at 7cups and will be working closely with the Therapy Subcom and also cohosting discussions in 50+ and mindfulness.
The name 50 + is fine. It would be good to have more people have access to support.
Appreciation for all that @Soulsings has done in steering the ship.
I don't have any problem with the forum's current name; changing it seems like an unnecessary step to take in a direction in which the forum already goes well enough.
Regardless of the name, I'd really like to emphasis to be on the issues that those who are 50 and older are dealing with (good and bad). If we want to talk about anxiety or depression or whatever, it seems like it's a better fit to do it here, rather than the actual anxiety or depression forums as those seem more populated with a much younger audience and the topics of stress for someone who is 18 can vastly differ from someone who is 60.
@thoughtfulmomma I agree with you, but there are also people in their 20's that feel like the issues 50+ handles are just want they want. That is why I like 50+ Issues because it leaves the door open to people that are already facing those issues even if their physical age is much younger.
To illustrate this here is the schedule of discussions we offer https://www.7cups.com/forum/50OverCommunity_193/TeamToolsandTeamUpdates_1705/50plusDiscussionsScheduleandTopics_207920/
@soulsings
Why not just add a sub community like you describe without eliminating or changing one Thais working and beneficial and thriving. Extreme change for the to may be good but old people like me do not handle it as well. Only my opinion.
@soulsings
I hate auto correct nonsense. Extreme change for the young…
