What’s One Lesson About Love or Life You’ve Learned After 50?

Turning 50 often brings new wisdom. What’s one lesson about love or life you’ve learned that changed how you see things? If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be? Would love to hear your thoughts!

As we get older i think we reflect on missed opportunities or paths not taken.

This includes Love and how we handled relationships in our lives.

That’s a powerful insight. Reflecting on missed paths often helps us appreciate the present and make wiser choices. For me, it’s about embracing those lessons rather than regrets. What’s one reflection that’s brought you peace or growth?

@RancherCowman7

I can appreciate that.

I am more open in my older age and now am not shy to say what I want or shy away from a challenge.   In younger age I missed cues and signs and should have dated more before I settled down.   I do not think at a young age we really know what a lifetime of being with someone will bring, and how fast things change.

I really admire your openness…it takes strength to gain that clarity. How has this new confidence changed the way you approach relationships now?

Now in relationships i know my boundaries and i do not placate anyone.

Either deal with me as i am or walk on.   too many people are fake and end up pretending for friends or romantic relationships and then wonder why they fail when truth and real comes out.

Absolutely agree. authenticity is everything. It’s so important to honor our true selves and set clear boundaries. Real connections thrive on honesty and mutual respect. How do you maintain that balance in your relationships?

Every single experience I've had, mistake I've made, opportunity I've taken or not taken, I've learned something from it.

My younger self might have said "I didn't like that experience, I wish I hadn't done it" but my 50+ self says "I didn't like that experience, but I still learned something from it!"

Such a powerful perspective, embracing every experience as a lesson truly shapes who we become. It’s inspiring to see that kind of growth and resilience. What’s one lesson that stands out most to you?

Love this question so much!

My younger self to be more independent. Don’t rush your relationships.

Education is key to the life you want to live.

Being a momma is the best thing in life. But teach your child to adapt to the world and be good citizens.

When a relationship is struggling learn to communicate. Therapy is something that can help you through tough times.

In retirement I am simplifying my life so don’t collect so much stuff.

When you are 20 invest (if you can )invest $100 month. When you retire you will have enough money to retire.

@RancherCowman7 I'm not 50 yet but old enough to reflect back and think of the lessons learnt.

For me the answer is self compassion.... I've been very hard on myself and I continue to struggle with it. Currently aiming to be kinder to myself while I pursue my goals with better strategies...

@RancherCowman7 That if you don't have someone by 50, in all likelihood the rest of your life will be a solo act.

one thing we learned is when one fall down doing something. one  needs to get up and try again. life a journey we all take. but it how you reacted to others what you say and do to others that matters most.

to my younger self  we say keep faith in God and know He know what best for you. even if one not understand  it at the time.

Live, love & learn.  Good, bad, ugly. We are only on this Earth for a short time.

  • To have more patience ! I’m a very impulsive person and it can get me into scrapes but I’ve learned that taking a step back is usually a better approach which works .
