Embracing uncertainty

My whole life, I've tried to minimize risk of potential hurt. It was only natural, protect myself. In doing this though, I let fear and anxiety control my actions. I slipped into a bad state of this for a couple weeks. I would say "what's the worst possible scenario" and then I'd try to eliminate any possibility of that happening. I've realized over the past couple days. If you try and eliminate pain from your life, you never live. You have to be okay with living with fear, and anxiety, and potentially getting hurt. The best thing you can do, is embrace it all. Be excited about the risk. Put yourself in a position in life so that if a risk doesn't pan out, that's ok. I'm so so excited about this new mentality. I have a tough relationship talk coming up tomorrow. I'm super excited for it. I'm excited to share this newfound mentality of mine. And if it doesn't go well? I'm excited to see how I bounce back. I won't let fear control me. It's always going to be there, and that's ok

Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. It is true that we as humans can try to prevent bad things happening to us out of fear and anxiety. It reminds me of the Disney movies 'Inside Out' 1&2. We have so many emotions in our brain, and they should balance out, not be overruled by one or another. When that happens, it causes us to feel unstable and unhealthy and ultimately, we don't end up living the life we deserve or would've wanted. You recognizing these things for yourself is a huge step and I am so proud of you. I truly hope that conversation went well, even with the anxiety you held over it. <3

This is honestly really big. You’re not letting fear run things anymore, you’re trusting yourself to handle whatever happens. That’s huge. 🩷

This was really inspiring to read. There’s a lot of depth in what you said, it feels like a real shift in how you’re seeing things: accepting that fear is always going to be there and still choosing to move forward anyway… that’s big! I’m really glad you’ve got to this point.

This is such a wonderful shift in perspective!

Seems like you came to the realization that when you let go of the idea of protecting yourself from every potential outcome, you get to experience more things that you would’ve missed out on!

It truly takes courage to be able to do that, when you know, things are uncertain, but you trust yourself in order to move forward.

I’m excited to hear more about where this takes you! What do you think caused you to shift your perspective?

@navyVase8285It sounds like you’ve had a really meaningful realization about fear and anxiety. I really like how you’re not trying to get rid of those feelings, but learning to accept them and still move forward. It takes a lot of courage to face something that could hurt you instead of letting fear make the decision for you. I hope your conversation tomorrow goes the way you’re hoping for, and whatever happens, it sounds like you’re ready to face it. 💛

It took me a long time to learn that lesson too: that controlling everything isn't really living at all. I'm so proud that you're accepting the discomfort that comes with anxiety, but also using it as a chance to grow and face your fears to shape the life you want. I'm glad you're not stopping yourself from feeling fear or bottling it up, but instead changing your perspective on it! Embracing fear and uncertainty is an incredible lesson that you've inspired me to work on.

Thank you for sharing and for pushing me out of my comfort zone!
