I hate the recaptcha
I was posting a thanks note.. and the crappy catcha.. ask me to verify 3 times just for one lousy thanks... reply... can you please use a better way to veryfy pleas??? this is getting me insane .
I agree that it can be annoying, but it does serve a good prupose as earlier the forums would be flooded with spam and it would be a hassle for some of the Forum Mentors and Stars to have to remove all of the time! Sometimes, though, there's reCAPTCHA's that aren't three-part and rather just a one step process. Tagging @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn if there's a way to have different reCAPTCHA's such as the text based one's or have them less frequent 
@Emily619 I think the typing one word on the search box kind of captcha would seem nicer than the one that there is now. 
The forums are still flooded with spam 
Unfortunately reCaptcha only protects agains some simple bots, and most of our spammers were never simple bots. So reCaptcha was the wrong solution. It annoys legitimate members while barely inconveniencing spammers.

@RarelyCharlie I did not want to say this.. cause it might be hard to pull.. but the best solution will be that all posts will have to be verified by mods or some other people. So everything that will get posted will need to be verified before being posted...
Also the most annoying thing is that I think every 1 out of 5 times you post something you get a failed recaptcha.. where the captcha is stuck in loading.. and never finishes.. that annoys the hell out of me.. ..
Yes, that would work, but it would require a lot of effort.
I think a better solution would be for the site software to reject posts from new members if the posts contain links or URLs. Established members could submit posts that contain links for approval by mods, and very well established members could post links without anyone's approval. This is technically quite easy to do.
I have software of my own that protects me seeing from most of the spam here at 7 Cups, and it works in the way I've described, by detecting links and URLs in the posts.
Perhaps a deeper question to ask is why we don't have agile (in the ordinary sense) software development here that addresses these simple issues in a simple way.

@RarelyCharlie That would be better too.. its just like in video games.. when there are hackers.. trying to get advantages of the games.. there are always moderators.. and people trying to build antihack systems.. so there will always be hackers.. maybe giving badges to people as granting them access to posts.. lets say every member/listener.. etc.. who wants to post thing needs to be a verify forum posting.. or something like that...

It can be a bit annoying in my opinion but it is a way to get rid of spam, maybe you should reach out to the 7cups community and giving them recommendations on other ways to prevent spam in the community :)

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago with several suggestions, such as giving regular forum users more power to be able to delete. Seems to me there's still a large amount of spam, so perhaps time to consider some of those other suggestions.
@DeborahUK Maybe , instead of giving the power to delete.. giving them the power to flag a potentially spam forum blog... cause what if a troll goes on a rampage and deletes all posts...? that wont be any good... so it might be difficut .
Okay it has finally found me and now I have to verify like every time lmao and yeah sometimes I'm asked multiple times. AND it doesn't work very well on mobile.

Instead of spending a half hour or more every morning deleting spam when I log in to Cups, I am now spending less than 5 minutes an entire day doing it.
ReCaptcha might be annoying, but the lion's share of the time, it is doing its job, even if it is a bit annoying.

When I turn my own spam filter off I get the impression that I'm seeing about the same amount of spam that originally annoyed me enough to make me write a spam filter 
But that's just my impression. If you have seen an improvement, then there must have been an improvement.

Just now, when I looked at the New Threads page with my spam filter on, I saw only six genuine threads. Without my spam filter I see the additional 14 spam threads. This kind of experience still gives me the impression that the recaptcha has not helped.
To check my impression, I estimated the amount of spam on June 28th, the last Wednesday in June, before the recaptcha. There were 67 spam threads. On July 26th, the last Wednesday in July, after the recaptcha, there were 88 spam threads—a 31% increase in spam over the month.
Genuine threads increased too, so the proportion of spam only increased from 54% to 58%. It appears that just over half of new threads were spam both before and after recaptcha was introduced. This is an uncivilized amount of spam, in my opinion.
@RarelyCharlie - correct. @bunnypants did some sleuthing and determined that the spam we are getting is endemic to forums that do not require email verification to post, but are likely posted manually by humans who can pass a captcha.
So we have turned off the captcha and are looking into requiring a verified email to post to forums.
