If anyone has dealt with brain fog, how did you get over it? What worked for you? I feel really dumb because of it and I'm really struggling to get through every day.Does it ever go away?

Here's a reference if anyone wants to know what is a brain fog.

@YougotthisNaush Hi, I have a condition that causes brain fog. I find pacing myself in all ways helpful. It can be made worse by a lack of overall energy and this is used in all social interactions, physical movements, emotional energy use and mental exertion. That has been the key for me and my son is also learning the same x

Hey @Only1OfMe i also find myself pacing, it helps not being stagnant and moving our body. I can relate to social exhaustion, I try not to drain myself mentally and keep it easy and less stressful.

@YougotthisNaush

Brain fog is generally a symptom of underlying medical condition. Possible cases may be anxiety, depression, tension headaches and more. Medications can help alleviate the brain fog. And also lifestyle changes like exercising regularly, eating healthy, reducing screen time, sleeping on time could help reduce the symptoms.

Hey @BlatantHonesty thank you for sharing that. Before this I've thought of brain fog as a thing itself and not as a symptom of underlying condition. I couldn't bring myself to reply sooner, Thanks again.

Hi! It could be a symptom of brain inflammation (neuroinflammation). I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I am too, and it's a real struggle. There was a post about this not long ago: https://www.7cups.com/forum/therapy/DevelopingHealthyCopingSkills_2253/BodyandMindConnectionInflammation_347130/

I added some information in that comment section, but will repost it here:

"This is such an important topic for me because I've been struggling with a high amount of brain inflammation for about 8 years, and only very recently found out it was brain inflammation. My brain inflammation was caused by intense psychological and emotional stress. It's rarely mentioned anywhere that stress can cause brain inflammation, which is why I would've never suspected that my symptoms were related to that.

I want to share the possible causes discussed in my training here:

● Direct Head Injury (Physical trauma with or without concussion)

● Indirect Head Injury (Whiplash)

● Intense Psychological or Emotional Stress

● Intestinal Permeability (Lipopolysaccharide [LPS] in bloodstream crosses blood

brain barrier)

● Gluten Sensitivity

● Oxygen Deprivation

● Chronic Infection

● Nervous System Infection (Meningitis)

● Heavy Metal Toxicity

As well as the common symptoms

● Brain fog

● Light sensitivity

● Low tolerance for stress

● Decision fatigue

● Brain feels like it shuts down (lights go off)

● Word searching

● Difficulty staying present and engaged (focusing)

● Forgetfulness

● Clumsiness

● Delayed reaction time

● Mentally not as sharp

● Headache

● Coordination issues

● Psychosis

● Depression, anxiety

● Get relief with eye support somatic exercises

A great thing to do is to start tracking our brain inflammation during the day, as well as sleep, food intake. We can then start to pinpoint causes, and make changes. It can also be caused by certain activities we do, or when we have emotional discussions, hence why tracking might really help.

For example, I notice that when I go to bed later than usual, I get brain inflammation in the morning. So a consistent sleep routine is essential for me.

A great somatic exercise that usually helps is doing this: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KaFqjkcY_4A . For a minimum of 30s to a minute, but you can do it for as long as it is needed. Meditation also helps for me.

27-28 minutes naps in complete darkness, with no sensory distractions can also really help. For a bad brain inflammation day, taking a nap every 3-4 hours might be necessary. "

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, I might be able to help in the comments or on 1-on-1!

Hey @ShiningInTheDark. I'm sorry as well that you are dealing with it, 8 YEARS of time is no joke, so sorry I can't imagine how hard it must have been

I had no idea brain fog is an inflammation in the brain until now! I didn't think about it to physiological level. Thank you for sharing all the info about it, i didn't find that level of information online or maybe i didn't dig deeper. Your share was really informative and helpful.

All the symptoms are very true with me, forgetfulness, delayed response and just being not able to think, concentrate never in the moment. I'll try the exercises and make diet changes and check what will work out for me.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing it here so helpful and really kind of you :)

@YougotthisNaush, you're welcome! I hope you find a solution that works for you! I know all of this information is hard to find online. I got it in a training course with a medical doctor who specializes in things like this. It's life-changing information for me because I've always wondered what I had and have been struggling to accept it. Now, at least I know where I'm going and that it can get better!

And if you are feeling some relief after the eye exercise, it's a good sign that you really are dealing with brain inflammation. Of course, it might be linked to another medical condition, however, if you just have brain inflammation, a non-specialist doctor might not be able to tell you. There is testing available but it's usually not necessary or helpful if you have a good history (an event that caused it, as I said, could be intense emotional/psychological stress or a long period of it, or the other listed), and it's also telling when you experience many symptoms.

@YougotthisNaush

Hmm I'm not a doctor or clinician but all I can say is that I've also dealt with my fair share of brain fog. Recently due to psychological trauma but I'd like to think that I'm recovering. I think the first thing I've done to help myself is to be compassionate, after all we're all human. Our brains could only take so much information and every day we're constantly taking in new information. That's why it's important to have tools like notebooks, recorders, and apps that remind us of certain tasks. Second sleep and rest has been imparative. It's important to rest as much you can and meditate. The third thing that has helped me is nutrition. Recently I've been adding mushrooms into my hot chocolate in the morning. Does it work? I don't know but I'd like to think it does. I hope you find a solution and that you continue to grow. I wish you well!

User Profile: YougotthisNaush

Hey @Shyness98 That's so true. I'm trying to be easy on my self and be compassionate rather than beating myself up and being upset that I'm not able to do things. It doesn't help stressing my brain and over exerting.

@Shyness98 for reminders I use sticky notes and i should look into what foods might help me out.

what you shared makes sense to me, thinking that I'm improving and trusting the process. It gives a positive outlook.

I wish you well too 💕

It looks like you've received a lot of good recommendations and support.  I'm very glad of that.

My worst experience with brain fog lasted for several years.  It turned out it was just one symptom of Lyme's disease, which I lived with for about 20 years.

The things that came to mind when I saw your post were:

Blood test to assess possible nutritional deficiencies, also for Lyme's or something else in your blood that shouldn't be.

Then look at stress factors, nutrition, sleep, and exercise.

Some activities are more engaging than others.  It might be worth correlating the symptoms with what kind of activity you're involved in.

I hope it gets better for you.

Still dealing with it, but much better managed. Routine and lifestyle changes. Overall, remember to not let others try to disrespect you because of it. In the past, friends and coworkers have often yelled and belittled me cause of it. As they were use to me being alert. Either way, I have found cutting off these people or removing yourself from a toxic environment helps. Greatly improved situation, now I work in a different environment and don’t associate this bad energy. Above all pacing yourself, but also reading and less stimulation from electronics. Try to read books, listen to healing music or beats on YouTube and or Spotify. Maintaining hydration and healing gut too and whole body of inflammation. Himalayan salt, turmeric, and garlic help I believe. Also, not for everyone but my faith has helped too.
