Expressing Healthy Anger Day 6
📅 Day 6: Channeling the Fire (Constructive Physical Release)
Sometimes, anger leaves behind a massive amount of physical energy. Even after a timeout and an "I-statement," you might still feel like there is a roaring fire trapped inside your chest or limbs.
Anger is a high-energy emotion. Pushing it down doesn't make it disappear; it just turns it inward, leading to resentment, anxiety, or physical fatigue. Today, we are talking about Constructive Release.
If your body is filled with angry energy, it is entirely healthy to release it physically, as long as it is done safely and intentionally. You can move that energy out of your body by:
• Going for a fast run or doing a burst of intense exercise.
• Ripping up old newspapers or cardboard boxes.
• Screaming into a thick pillow.
• Putting on heavy music and stomping or dancing aggressively in your room.
• Writing a furious "burn letter" expressing every single raw, messy thought you have—and then safely destroying it.
🔍 Deep Dive Explanation
Somatic (body-based) experiencing shows that emotions have a physical life cycle. If an emotion isn't allowed to complete its cycle, it gets stuck in a state of chronic nervous system tension. Giving your body a physical, safe outlet for anger allows your nervous system to complete the "fight" impulse safely, signaling to your brain that the danger has passed and it is finally safe to relax.
❓ Reflection Questions for the Comments
• What is your favorite, safe way to get rid of heavy physical energy when you are stressed or mad?
• Have you ever tried writing a "burn letter" (a letter you never send) to clear your head? How did it feel?

Day 5 for whoever lost it 👆
@cheerfulKiwi1776
Wow that makes sense. I had ni idea there is something like a physical cycle of an emotion. Releasing it safely sounds like a helpful step.
I don't have a safe way, but at a point I used to scratch the walls. Ir spin around really fast till I'm dizzy. That is a bit safer I guess.
Thanks for the amazing post! 💖
•yoga and intense workout is the most effective method for me to get rid of heavy physical energy.
•i have tried it once but it didn't really mad a very big change in my emotions but I'll try it few more times .
Music and a run or heavy bag work out
I have done burn letters :)
@mytwistedsoul
Music, run and heavy bag workout are great!
Did the burn letter helped you at all or not?
@cheerfulKiwi1776 They help for a little. I know it's supposed to help release things but I don't think it really does. I think it's kind of cyclic. I would do the burn letters, give a big sigh of relief and then something happens that brings up old memories and thoughts and there it is again.
For the physical energy, ive done running a lot. Working out is dicey, because I'm liable to overdo it. Kendo is really good for it too. I was lucky enough to take classes for that.
Burn letters... I used to do those. Addressed to someone and everything. I've tweaked it by now. I keep it nice and cryptic. No one knows exactly who or what I'm talking about, and the raw sassiness can become it's own kind of poetry. Put some music to them and they could probably be metal songs. 😁
@Torean
Running is great! Also, its okay if you cannot work out if you dont trust yourself to not overdo it but if sometime you want to try it I believe in you. What is kendo?
Also, twitting those is absolutely sassy while keeping them cryptic. What an amazing way! Never thought about it. I got excited. Really nice. Lol I like the idea✨️❤️🥲
Heheh, thanks, and I'm glad you liked the idea. You should try it out 😁
Kendo is like Japanese fencing. That's how my sensei described it anyway. If you do an image search, you can see how it looks pretty similar to fencing, just with longer bamboo swords. I don't really like that explanation though. Fencing is more of a sport, and Kendo is more like a martial arts and even philosophy sort of thing, and it's rooted in actual samurai katana combat training. I miss those classes so much.
@cheerfulKiwi1776
- usually drawing. Like just taking a peice of paper and drawing a couple of squares and fillen them in. That helps
- i have done burn letters, occasionally. Mixed feelings about em
@cheerfulKiwi1776
My favorite, safest way to deal with anger is exercise. I always believe exercise has the magic to clear a chaotic head and release unpleasant stuff.
I used to write down my feelings on social media (in private mode) or in my diaries, but I found it's not that effective for me. Sometimes my mind tends to twist things, and once I realize it, I stop writing. However, I haven't tried using "I-statements" before. Maybe it would be better if I just focus on how I feel, instead of recapping the frustrating details again and again.
@cheerfulKiwi1776
I somehow missed this post so I'm a bit late lol. 🙃
I don't think I really have a way to get rid of physical energy tbh. I mostly just suppress things.
I haven't ever tried a burn letter before, maybe I'll try it sometime. (:

this maybe odd but for me it been throwing a ball as hard as i can angest a wall then letting it come back and trying to caught it as it fast pace and movement
another one i use i call fast painting it were you just brush the paint on in no order and fast moves it very messy a lot of the time but helps a lot this one i use more now then first one due to health reasons many times when done i will also rip up the painting into pieces in that letting go of the anger
• Have you ever tried writing a "burn letter" (a letter you never send) to clear your head? How did it feel?
yes in therapy i was asked to do this to my abusers like everything i say to them and felt about them it felt good and helped a lot as it was like taking back power from then even if only in my mind i did this a few times after the first ones even for ones i am angry with now truth is that has been a big part of learning not to self harm too
