Tw: Sexual abuse/Sibling sexual abuse

"What happens in our house stays in our house."

Those words were drilled into me like scripture.

My parents whispered them in warning,

like keeping secrets was love.

like silence was safety.

They still say it.

I’m 22 now.

But I see it clearly for what it is:

It was never about protecting me.

It was always about protecting him.

Protecting the image.

Protecting the lie.

They don’t want the world to know what he did.

That their son

their golden boy

could do something so vile.

So of course they want me quiet.

Of course they want the story buried.

But how do I heal

when my silence is the price of their comfort?

How do I breathe

when I’m suffocating on words I’m not allowed to say?

“He’s changed,” they tell me,

as if healing is a straight line

and trauma just disappears with time.

But what he did doesn't go away.

Not for me.

He walks free

no scars, no guilt, no punishment.

And me?

I live with the flashbacks.

The nightmares.

The shaking hands and the tight chest

every time I hear his voice.

Every time I’m forced to smile through panic

just to keep the peace.

Just to be the “good daughter.”

I pretend.

I hold it in.

I wait until I’m alone

and then I break.

Sobbing on the floor,

wondering if I’ll ever feel whole again.

Because my parents

they’ll do anything to protect their son.

But me?

The daughter who was hurt?

The girl who carries the weight of what he did?

Do I matter at all?

I'm terribly sorry you had to go through that. I'm a librarian and book therapist in my work off cups. I collected a folder of ebooks to help someone else here with your issues and thought you might like them.

@Lindsey103 I'm very sorry you have been through that awful trauma- you did not deserve it at all and you do not have to live with that. I hope you can speak to a therapist and find a way to move forward, to get distance between you and the perpetrator and those who protect him and find peace. Wishing you the best.

@Lindsey103 TW

I’ve too been sexually abused by family, I know exactly how you feel, the guilt of wanting to tell someone, but afraid of what they will do. Then having to deal with the  nightmares, and the flashbacks. It’s really hard, but eventually they slowly ( I mean really slowly) they stopped. You just have to preserve through it, I know it’s really hard, but if you’ve made it this far, do you know how strong, brave, and amazing that makes you? I believe in you, just keep going, keep trying your best.

I can relate to your story because my half brother gang rated me when I was a kid and my family never helped and they always favored him. However, I am a devout Hindu now and I do deep breathing and I live on my own and I am doing great. Whenever, I get flashbacks, I ground myself. I used to get flashbacks very often but now i don't get them very much anymore. I take medicine to keep my stability. My last counselor betrayed me so now I use my art for my therapy and my kitten is my companion. I think you will recover gracefully if you ground yourself with deep breathing and there are many deep breathing exercises. I would like to encourage you to do your research on pranayama and then you make your decision on which deep breathing e exercises you would like to try and develop your daily practice for your healing. The rewards are truly great.

Shocked and grieved reading .

What kinds Humanity and what kind of Human socities following this kind of child abuse. I condemn it.

In Muslim socities father, sister, son and daughters are restricted to sleep together no matter what..

It has control these kind of abuses but not all.

This post has shaken my body and I feel sorry for you and keep praying for you to have pease in your life. You are not alone we at 7Cups are always around you to help.
