Weekly Prompt #37: What did bring you to 7Cups Community?
Hello all!
Last week we discussed: Can you list five things you love about yourself? If you haven't checked yet, please click here to add your thoughts.
This week's prompt- What did bring you to the 7Cups Community? How did 7Cups shape your experiences so far?
Today, I want us to reflect on how we joined 7Cups and how our experiences evolved here. I look forward to listening and discussing all thoughts, and experiences with you.

@ASilentObserver Hello ! Everyone! Hope you're doing good... Jaya From India ✨ So , i was brought to 7 cups in the intention of becoming a listener since I searcher same thing on Google this appears.. i must say it was my best decision to click on that link because I was always said i won't listen properly please first listen and then speak..this was my basic problem before I join 7 cups & that training which was really short and very much life changing for me !!! Since I've become a very good listener i can assure myself now I'm learning many more things, my knowledge is increasing through listening to people, my skills are improved! And i always make sure In the end of our conversation I ask them that did you feel heard and understood? So , if the answer comes yes and they always write some kind words which makes my day too ... Thank you & lots of love to the one who created & gave me this divine oppurtunity and blessing to be here I bow down with gratitude 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
@Soulsofjaya1176 Hello Jaya, thank you for sharing your journey with us. I am glad to hear that becoming a listener has helped you improve your own listening skills and increase your understanding of others. Your dedication to ensuring each person feels heard and understood is admirable. Thank you for your uplifting presence and support in the community.
@ASilentObserver Hello ASO!
I came to 7 cups about 4.5 years ago because my mental health was very poor. I was in and out of the hospital for some time because I could not function properly and it was a very hard time. As I learned to reach out to others and lean on people a bit, my mental health care took off and I was able to form a good persona and character. 7 cups helped me because I was able to reach out to someone in the moment when I needed it. Of course, there are other resources in the county I live in to ensure that I can be safe, but when I did not need something extreme, 7 cups was the place to go!
It is hard to live with a mental health disability, and that by listening to others, paying attention to my own emotions and thoughts, as well as following my doctors orders, I have been able to become a respectable individual and have made great strides towards my goals with tremendous progress!
Thank you so much ASO!
Ethan
Wow That's so Inspiring! ð¤©
@sincerePlane4053 That is so wonderful to hear how 7 Cups has been here for you during those difficult times, Ethan. Reaching out for support and learning to lean on others is such a powerful step towards healing. I admire your determination and progress. That is inspiring. Keep up with taking your small steps and know you have all of us here to support you.
@ASilentObserver The need for a place to vent some issues that I have been bottling up all my life because at home we don't talk about anything like that and in the family we also just do the same things, keep everything on a surface level and I felt like I needed to get things off my chest to start with.
@Michelh1996
I can relate to that. It's hard to open up about certain things with family or close friends. Outsourcing a way to vent out our emotions elsewhere sometimes brings out the best in us I believe.
@sky2Ocean20 I would agree, I do think though it would be good to have 1 or 2 people closeby to be able to share stuff with. Talk things through and stuff. But the realization that also a lot of other people struggle with things, some quite similar, wherever in the world, is also very eye-opening. And sharing with "strangers" on here, or a therepist is quite a different dimension from talking with friends/familly!
@Michelh1996
Agree. True friends are hard to come by. May be in our entire life we can't have one or two friends/close people constantly. we drift apart during the course of life. and those who have close friends consistently are the lucky ones.
@Michelh1996 That sounds like you have been carrying a heavy burden alone for quite some time, Michel. Bottling emotions can really take a toll on us. I am glad you are here with us and trying to share what you can. Please know you have all of us here to listen to and support you. You are not alone in this.
I had applied to the clinical psychology program of a specific university. The dean of admissions sent me a rejection letter. The individual in charge of admitting prospective students to the program sent me an acceptance letter. Then they sent me a rejection letter. After I asked them for clarification, they sent me another rejection letter.
I figured my lack of volunteer work and the age of my degree did not look well on my application. I went to a walk designed to raise awareness of suicide prevention. Intuition suggested I should seek out local volunteer opportunities while there. Two booths awaited my perusal. Neither needed assistance. A woman at the second booth took a sheet of paper and wrote down some numbers for me to try.
When I got home, none of them wanted any help either. I thought: Well. This sucks. What am I supposed to do now if I want to see if this is a path I truly want to take?
I was going to throw the sheet of paper away, but I happened to turn it around to see what was on the other side.
An advertisement for 7 Cups.
@Aurelius121 I am sorry to hear that you were confused after receiving mixed messages about the graduate school program. It can be frustrating when things don't add up. What thoughts came up for you when you saw the 7 Cups ad?
Honestly, I don't remember that part as clearly. I saw it as an opportunity. I signed up, took two weeks to gather my courage, and jumped in.
@ASilentObserver As a former listener and leader, I bring experience, in supporting and helping others. I also bring, a caring and supportive heart as well. That is what I bring to the 7cups community. I would love to hear, what you bring to the 7cups community?
I found 7 cups when I was searching for information online about counselling courses because I had realized then that I want to pursue a career in the mental health field. I also was interested at that time to join a community of some sort. A place where I could go and make a friend and have a chat. I moved continents a few years ago and the transition has been anything but easy. It's honestly been incredibly challenging on so many different levels.
So when I found 7 cups it satisfied everything I was looking for and provided more in a very short time, more that I had anticipated. So I am very grateful to be here to be able to listen and me an ear for someone going through a difficult time. Those conversations have left me feeling better about myself and my current situation. It's really true that when you help someone else you are also helping yourself. ❤️
@aCalmOasis I am glad you found us, Oasis. So glad to have you here with us. What do you think are the most challenging things about transitioning to a new continent?
Thanks Obs, one of if not the biggest challenges include leaving everything familiar and known behind. All your community, friends and family. You become separated and that creates sadness and grief over not being able to see them or feel their in person support anymore.
Then there is the culture shock and the feeling of displacement. Not fitting in, sticking out like a sore thumb. If your way of living, being and overall outlook on life is quite different then it becomes very challenging to assimilate, feel accepted or at home. I have been living in a stressed hypervilagent state for a host of reasons due to the culture shock for close to 3 years now.
I could go on and on in more detail but I won't. On the positive my family and I are planning on leaving here to something more suited as soon as we alhave the means to. Unfortunately everything we read about the country we landed in was false advertising. So we are being very careful about the next place we choose. That's the coles notes answer to your question. Thanks for asking and allowing me to share Obs :)
@ASilentObserver
I honestly think the members have made the biggest impact on me, from being open and honest about their stories, and the pure gratitude they feel to have someone to talk to. I hope my listening skills have made an impact somehow :]
I came to 7cups with the intention to support my community and make a lasting impact in the hearts and minds of amazing people on this platform.
As time progressed, I became more intentional about my growth and journey here after receiving positive reviews and cheers from the amazing members I helped and although I took a long break, I still found my way back here.
I now focus my attention on helping Teenagers on 7cups after becoming an Adult-Teen Listener and the journey continues.
Thank you 7cups for helping me find my purpose.
@CharlesItuahO I am glad you have found a sense of purpose through being a listener on 7 Cups. How do you feel when you think about continuing on this path?
@ASilentObserver I feel like life has more in store for me going forward, so I am keeping my faith and courage close to my heart.
@CharlesItuahO I am glad you are holding onto hope and positivity. What gives you the most comfort as you navigate these uncertain times?
@ASilentObserver I believe that it is my unwavering faith that things will eventually begin to shape up during these uncertain times.
