🚑 Could We Use a Dedicated First Responders Subcommunity? 🚒

Hi everyone!

Many of you may already know that we occasionally open our First Responders Support Room for pop-up open chats, giving members a place to connect with others who understand some of the unique experiences that come with working in first response and related fields.

I've been thinking about how we could take that support a step further. What if we had an entire First Responders Subcommunity here on 7 Cups? A dedicated space where people could connect, share experiences, discuss the challenges of their work, and find support from others who understand the world they're navigating.

I'm envisioning a space that could include topics such as:

  • EMS and Paramedics: The realities of emergency medical services, difficult calls, and the emotional toll of the job.

  • Firefighters: Navigating the demands, stressors, and experiences of fire service.

  • Police and Law Enforcement: Finding support around the unique challenges of the profession.

  • Medical and Hospital Workers: A place for nurses, doctors, technicians, patient care staff, and others working in healthcare.

  • Families of First Responders: Supporting the loved ones who carry their own worries, stress, and challenges.

  • Self-Care and Resources: Sharing healthy coping strategies, helpful resources, burnout prevention ideas, and ways to care for ourselves while caring for others.

These are just starting ideas! I'd love to see a space that reflects what our community members actually need, rather than making assumptions about what would be helpful.

Working in these fields can mean witnessing difficult things, experiencing loss, carrying stress home, or feeling like it's hard to explain what you've been through to someone who hasn't experienced something similar. Sometimes, connecting with someone who gets it can make a real difference.

This is where I need your help!

I've put together a short Google Form to gather information about interest in a dedicated First Responders Subcommunity. The more responses we receive, the better we can demonstrate that there is a genuine need and interest in creating a more permanent space for this kind of support.

👉 Share Your Interest Here!

You don't have to be a first responder to participate in this discussion! Whether you work in one of these fields, are a family member of someone who does, support these communities in another capacity, or simply believe this would be a valuable addition to 7 Cups, your feedback is welcome.

Filling out the form doesn't guarantee that a subcommunity will be created, but it will help us understand the level of interest and what people would like to see included.

Let's talk about it!

What would you most want to see in a First Responders Subcommunity? Are there specific topics, resources, or types of support that you think are missing? Is there a group of workers or family members you'd especially like to see represented?

I'd love to hear your thoughts below, too!

Thank you for helping explore ways we can make 7 Cups a more supportive place for the people who spend so much of their lives supporting others. ❤️

Thank you for the tag !! I will absolutely fill out the form. I wasnt ignoring the first post I just didnt wanna insert myself if it was just for first responders specifically. (I have mostly just been a healthcare worker)

You're welcome! :D Thank you! No, it is not exclusively just the typical first responders, definitely healthcare workers too! The entire team is important.

Yes, showing my support here!

I think a dedicated subcommunity with the sub-spaces will help the first responders find their place because the exhaustion, burn out and mental toll is very very real. I am always willing to provide more support in whatever way is necessary. 💚

Sounds like a great idea.  I am not a first responder, but there are many on Cups who are. And they definitely deserve our support.
