Seeded Fruits vs. Seedless Fruits

User Profile: SirenOfSerenity

Hi there everyone! 🥰 This is a question that's always been in my mind but I could never find the right place to ask; Of course 7 Cups would have the perfect subcommunity!

So as the title says: Seeded fruits vs. Seedless fruits. I have only 3 mini questions:

1) Do you prefer seeds in your fruit or without seeds?

2) If you prefer seeds in your fruit, what do you do with the seeds when you're done? XD I always wondered if you can plant fruits from the seeds lol

3) To anyone's knowledge, are fruits with seeds healthier than fruits without them?

I was inspired to make this post after reading @DonaldDraper 's "World Diabetes Day 2022" post , check it out!

1) Do you prefer seeds in your fruit or without seeds?

Depends on the fruit.

2) If you prefer seeds in your fruit, what do you do with the seeds when you're done? XD I always wondered if you can plant fruits from the seeds lol

Some I eat, some I actually prepare differently (ie. pumpkins, winter squash). Others I put into the compost. Mature seeds can be planted, but a lot of the time they will no grow true to the parent plant due to cross-pollination or hybridization. Also there's environment to factor in. I'm generally fairly selective with which plants I choose to grow.

3) To anyone's knowledge, are fruits with seeds healthier than fruits without them?

No. Some seeds aren't good to eat, others are. I could ask the same about if one should eat the leaves of a root vegetable. Beets, carrots? Sure. Potatoes, Wild Parsnip? Not a great idea.

@AffyAvo Thank you so much for your answers! I feel way more educated on this in a scientific way

"Mature seeds can be planted, but a lot of the time they will no grow true to the parent plant due to cross-pollination or hybridization. Also there's environment to factor in." - That's the most clear explanation I've ever gotten, thank you so much for taking the time to answer 💙 I definitely appreciate the knowledge you shared in all of answer 3, it's extremely important to keep in mind that not all parts of the fruit or vegetable should be eaten

@SirenOfSerenity1) Do you prefer seeds in your fruit or without seeds?

Ehhhhh I'd prefer fruit without seeds, but at the same time I believe fruit with seeds is always better then fruit without seeds.

2) If you prefer seeds in your fruit, what do you do with the seeds when you're done? XD I always wondered if you can plant fruits from the seeds lol

I honestly don't know if you can plant fruits from seeds :P All I can say is that I've grown squash using seeds from a store-bought plant and I wouldn't recommend doing that because the resulting plant wasn't too healthy although it survived.

3) To anyone's knowledge, are fruits with seeds healthier than fruits without them?

The seedless fruits you see offered in the supermarkets are typically made using genetic engineering, so I'd say fruit with seeds is always a healthier choice.

However there are some naturally occurring fruits in nature that are toxic to humans. Not all fruit is meant for human consumption I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Zevia1MM omg your profile photo is adorableeee :3 Thank you for your answers! It makes sense that the fruit or vegetables wouldn't survive as long 😔

"The seedless fruits you see offered in the supermarkets are typically made using genetic engineering" - nooo, my grapes D: Lol I kind of had a feeling but I didn't think they'd sell such a thing in the markets... I've been in denial xD

@SirenOfSerenity

1) Do you prefer seeds in your fruit or without seeds?....It depends on the Fruit, (Strawberries not an issue, Apples on the other hand, are too big and hard and I wouldn't want to bite down on them.)

2) If you prefer seeds in your fruit, what do you do with the seeds when you're done? ..... I toss the seeds in the garbage if I encounter them in something like (an apple for example).... When I was little however someone told me I could plant them and grow whatever type of tree the fruit was. Of course at that age, and no real help or instructions, that never really worked. 😉

3) To anyone's knowledge, are fruits with seeds healthier than fruits without them?...I never thought about it, but typically I would NOT want to eat the seeds of things like Apples for example.

Fun questions.. thanks for the post!

Hi, Serenity,

I prefer seeds in some fruits, but not in others.

I grew an avocado tree from an avocado pit.

@SirenOfSerenity haha Thank you for the tag 🧡

I dont mind seeds.

But we do have technology now that can create seedless fruits.

The bigger question is, can we create a seed without the whole fruit? 🤔

2) Yes, you can plant them and water.

3) I think both.

Fruit with seeds. You can replant the seeds! I was always told to buy fruit with seeds other fruit without seeds are not natural.

@bestMaple2045 I had a small feeling seedless fruit were unnatural but the seeds get in my way 😅 But I'm glad I finally spoke about this with such a cool community 💙

To seed or not to seed. That is the question lol!

It depends on the fruit. All fruits are good but some have surprise seeds that might not have been expected. Like seedless grapes or clementines I prefer no seeds but they can surprise you.

Seeds from fruits can be grown. I've done apple trees this way. The down side is that it often takes fruit trees 5+ years before they start bearing any fruit

To seed or not to seed. That is the question xD Lol good one! Wow you were able to grow an apple tree! I'm sure it took a lot of patience to finally see it blossom but still very cool

@jesusredeemedme2425

Picked before mature seeds develop. Often commercial varieties have been selected/hybridized/genetically engineered to produce less seeds and form them later.

@SirenOfSerenity Grapes and watermelon are my number one and two fruit. I prefer grapes without seeds because I hate having to spit them out. Watermelon on the other hand, I do not like seedless. I prefer watermelon with the seeds in them. They are sweeter and it just doesn't feel right without them.
