Bedtime routines

When I am super busy and really stressed, my entire sleep schedule gets messed up. I try to stick to a good bedtime routine of "unplugging" from all my devices and just relaxing for a bit before bed, but sometimes my mind is just racing with so many thoughts of things that I need to do the next day that I end up grabbing my laptop and doing more work....and continuing to feel exhausted, but wide awake.

I would love to hear about your bedtime routine that helps ensure a restful night of sleep.

Thanks so much for your help ❤️

This is a great question Cloud. Thanks for sharing this. It will be great to see what everyone else does or adds to their routine.

Personally I enjoy a relaxing hot bath and meditation music to help put me in a calming mood and get my body ready for rest.

@halcyonCloud2036 good question!

my ideal bedtime routine is turning off my notifications, listening to a relaxing playlist, then doing yoga for sleep and reading a few pages until I drift off to sleep!

I love the idea of yoga for sleep -- honestly had not even considered that! Thank you so much!

To ensure a good night sleep a make sure to eat and finish my skincare at least 1 hour before going to bed, which makes me feel lighter and more relaxed. (YES, this is part of my bedtime routine xD.)

Afterwards, i comb my hair and massage my scalp. Then I list down or think of (when I'm feeling lazy) at least 3 things from the day that went well for me/that I'm grateful for. This is followed by meditation and affirmations.

I close in by nourishing my soul with dhikrAllah (rememberance of Allah) and instighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah) and pass out. 💤

I almost always read books or manga before bed (while I'm laying down to sleep). It really does a good job of making you feel sleepy. At least it does for me lol.

Sure thing! I love manga and comics. They're easy and light to read, especially when trying to fall asleep :)

Once I take off my contacts after a hot shower, my body automatically starts tiring out. It's magical! If not that much I usually try to read a book to ease my mind and get my eyes off electronics before I sleep :) Great post!

@halcyonCloud2036 I agree. Devices can make our sleep quality to degrade. It's something we all need to work on more and come up with a solution. thank you 🧡

Meanwhile, my bedtime routine is this:
1) I log out from laptop 2 hours prior to bedtime
2) I prepare and eat dinner
3) I take a walk on terrace and listen to music/podcast
4) I change into comfy clothes and visit bathroom for the last time for the day
5) Switch off the lights and lay on bed
6) Check my notifications for the last time on phone and then put it on DND mode
7) Listen something if I am about to fall asleep or watch something informative if I dont feel sleepy yet
8) Sometimes if I feel hungry I get some warm milk and come back
9) Zzzzz

As I said, carrying phone to bed is something I would like to change too as a habit. I did try it and could only do it for a few days. Let's hope this discussion throws light on some usable solutions for all of us.

@DonaldDraper thanks for the tag!

@halcyoncloud here are some things that i have found helpful in aiding my sleep!

1) having some warm milk half an hour before i intend to go to bed

2) in summers, i like to take showers before i go to bed. i skip that in winters and settle for just washing my face then putting on some scented lotion

3) i deposit my devices in another room because i know I'm too lazy to go all the way over there to get them and continue to work xD so that helps me to keep myself in bed without any screens

4) to avoid racing thoughts that keep me up, i keep a journal and pen by my bedside, and i write down everything that's going on in my head before going to sleep.

5) if I'm in the mood, then I'll also sometimes listen to Tchaikovsky or Mozart before bedtime.

hope this helps! <3

@DonaldDraper

😬 *doesn't have a proper routine*

1. I eat dinner 2 hours before bedtime

2. Clean dishes😂 yk some daily chores xD

3. Maybe write my journal

4. Listen some music, check my notifications...... and here my times vanishes so fast, I use it till my bedtime

So I wanna avoid using my phone before my bedtime ;-;

Yes...I try, but sometimes, right in the middle of that peaceful meditation, something work-related pops in my head :(

But you have inspired me to keep trying ❤️

I keep tv on at night so I don't think about things, the TV keeps my mind busy.

My sleep patterns are terrible. I stay awake until 3 am and wake up at 1 pm in the afternoon, and sometimes fall asleep during the day to catch up on my sleep then once I am awake I'm back to the same thing all over again, I haven't had a normal sleep since my life has changed

@halcyonCloud2036 Great post! I don't really have a routine, even though I should try to make one as I know it can help with falling asleep faster.
