Self-care
Hi everyone!
I’ve been thinking about self-care and how important it is when we are supporting others. Taking time for ourselves can really help us stay balanced and avoid burnout.
What are some self-care practices that help you recharge?
How do you recognise when you need to take a break?
@WarmChat I've just came back from a self care break😁💖 I think it's important to stop when your starting to feel overwhelmed or your mental wellbeing is deteriorating.
My best self care stuff is.. Watching the sunrise... Playing with my piggies 😁 (guinea pigs) and a relaxing evening with candles pretty fairy lights hot tea and soothing music💖
@Tinywhisper11
great ideas! i play my guitar and LOVE sitting in the open shade if its raining. idk but i feel such warmth in rains!
@WarmChat
I like to walk 💙
Have a long hot bubble bath.
Nice cup of tea.
Pray.
Spend time with family 💙🤗
@Amanda84 oh yah! long walks really do help- maybe plug in your fav music, its soo relaxing
@WarmChat
For me, self-care includes small but consistent habits like going for walks, listening to music, and taking short breaks when I feel overwhelmed. I also find that journaling or simply having quiet time alone helps me recharge.
I usually recognize I need a break when I start feeling more tired than usual, less focused, or more easily irritated. That’s often my sign to step back and reset a bit before continuing.
I’ve learned that even short moments of rest can make a big difference in staying balanced and avoiding burnout.
@chialto03 oh yeah! I do all the same things as you, too! Great way of offloading your mind!
@WarmChat
1. Some self-care practices that help me recharge are doing yoga, eating a healthy meal, going for a run or walk, and reading positive psychology books. These activities help me feel calmer, healthier, and more mentally refreshed.
2. I usually recognize that I need a break when I start feeling burned out and exhausted, even after getting enough sleep. That is usually a sign that I need to slow down and recharge mentally and emotionally.
@Iv02 wow that is actually healthy! keep going Iv02!
This is such a crucial topic. When you're constantly there for others, it's so easy to forget to check in on yourself.
For me, the best way to recharge is just unplugging completely for a bit, whether that’s putting my phone on dnd to play some music, getting outside for a walk, or just watching a comfort show that makes me laugh. It’s all about finding those little things that bring you peace, where nobody needs anything from you.
I usually recognize I need a break when my patience starts wearing thin over tiny things, or when I find it hard to focus because my brain just feels completely scattered. My heart rate will start feeling a bit rushed, and that's my body’s cue that I'm running on empty. Learning to catch those signs before reaching total burnout is definitely a game-changer!🥰
@sarakind i feel that happens to listeners a lot. After a full day of listening, I also feel as if my brain needs that cut off from the world.
I really like this discussion topic because self-care is often overlooked when we focus on supporting others. For me, practices like taking short breaks, listening to music, reflecting quietly, and spending time away from screens help me recharge and feel more balanced.
I usually recognize that I need a break when I start feeling mentally exhausted, overwhelmed, or less patient than usual. Sometimes difficulty focusing or feeling emotionally drained are also signs for me to slow down and reset. I think learning to notice these signs early is an important part of maintaining well-being and avoiding burnout.
@IngeniousFriend69
I really like what you said about noticing the signs early. I think that's something a lot of people struggle with, including me. Sometimes I don't realise I need a break until I'm already feeling TOTALLY overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing, it gave me something to think about!
@WarmChat
I’ve realized that self-care becomes especially important when we spend a lot of emotional energy supporting other people. For me, some of the most helpful self-care practices are the simple ones: taking walks, listening to music, getting enough rest, journaling, spending time away from screens, or just having quiet time alone to reset mentally. I also think talking to trusted people and allowing ourselves to feel emotions instead of constantly suppressing them can be a form of self-care too.
@wonderfulDreamer1791
I completely agree. I think people often imagine self-care as something big, but sometimes it's just letting yourself slow down for a while. I especially liked your point about allowing ourselves to feel emotions instead of suppressing them. That's something I'm still learning because it's often easier to push feelings aside than to actually sit with them.
@WarmChat Such a great post! For me self-care looks like cooking a nice healthy meal, watching a movie, reading, and sometimes it's just sitting in silence and giving me some time and space to breathe, exist and think
@WarmChat honestly for me i do need to recharge myself very frequently, as i do need to contain my energy in a way that i stay vibrant as that's what also heals others. so i do get to know about when i need to recharge by my own either by environment.
and to recharge i do spend time with self do gymming, rearrange my environment, do journaling too.
@HealingAlien4444
I think it's really cool that you've become so aware of when stress is creeping in. That's something I'm still working on because sometimes I don't realise I need a break until I'm already exhausted. 😅
@WarmChat
I do gardening, listen to music, and play rpgs..
I try to stay aware when I am feeling mentally weak, when I feel stress creeping up I slow down and pace myself.
@AsherTree
I think being able to notice stress before it builds up too much is something a lot of people struggle with. Gardening sounds like a very calming hobby, too. I've always thought activities like that can be a great way to slow down and clear your mind. 😊
