Hi everyone! 😊

I’ve been reflecting on the importance of setting boundaries, especially when supporting others. It can sometimes feel difficult to balance being there for someone while also protecting our own wellbeing.

What strategies do you use to maintain healthy boundaries when supporting others?
Have you ever found it challenging to say no or step back?

I find it challenging because I'm generally the person helping others, and I recently noticed, that instead of people being greatful or appreciative, they instead take it for granted and starting seeing what you can do for them, instead of seeing you , it's important to start small but remain firm 💙🤗

Hi Amanda,

Thank you for sharing that. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had that experience. I can relate to that at times as well. I’ve found that setting boundaries around how much support I give really helps with my well-being. I hope things start to feel a bit easier for you.

If you’d like, we can continue chatting here about it. I’d be happy to listen.

I’ve had a few times where it was really challenging for me to say no, even when I needed help myself and felt drained. But I’ve noticed that in that state, it doesn’t really help anyone. I’m not able to support others properly, and I just end up feeling even more exhausted.

This is something I’m still working on. I’ve found that being honest about my limits, even in a simple way, helps me maintain boundaries without feeling guilty.

Hi! 😊

For me, one helpful strategy is reminding myself that setting boundaries doesn’t mean I care less about the other person—it actually helps me show up in a more sustainable way. I also try to be clear and kind when communicating limits, rather than avoiding the conversation.

It can definitely be challenging to say no, especially when I want to help, but I’ve learned that overcommitting often leads to feeling drained later. Taking a small pause before responding also helps me decide whether I truly have the capacity to support someone at that moment.

Over time, I’ve realized that respecting my own limits actually improves the quality of the support I can give.

One thing that helps me maintain healthy boundaries is recognizing when I’m emotionally drained and allowing myself time to recharge. I try to remind myself that supporting others does not mean sacrificing my own well-being.

Yes, I’ve definitely found it hard to say no at times, especially when I care about someone. But I’ve learned that setting boundaries is not selfish, it helps prevent burnout and allows us to support others in a healthier way.

I definitely used to have a hard time setting boundaries throughout my life. Its hard when you don't want to hurt the other person's feelings or to disappoint them. But, when i joined 7 cups i made a commitment to myself to prioritize my own well being and to say no (kindly but firmly) when i am not comfortable with something. To me, setting boundaries sometimes looks like telling the other person what you are comfortable with/what works for you and not compromising your own mental wellbeing even under pressure from the other person. because how can you be at your best in being there for others when you cannot stand up for and be there for yourself?

@WarmChat Interesting post!! I have indeed had trouble saying no plenty of times and I am working on getting better at boundaries since everytime I have little time and I need to sacrifice something, I tend to sacrifice the time for myself way more than time for school, for friends, family, etc.

@WarmChat    alot of times i had felt bad to say a no
i was so unaware of personal boundaries back then, still i am learning alot more rebuilding that back...
but as of now if someone doesn't serves me
either i feel bad on my own because of them. I just leave them.

A helpful strategy for me is reminding myself that I can support others without overextending myself. I try to be clear about what I can and cannot offer, and I communicate it honestly but gently.

Saying no was definitely difficult at first, especially out of guilt, but I’ve learned that stepping back when needed actually helps me show up more effectively in the long run.

I also find it useful to pause before responding, so I’m not agreeing out of pressure.

yes, it is definitely challenging/
