Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric

User Profile: FrenchToast
FrenchToast December 5th, 2022

It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal.

Please watch this video

There are 2 parts to this discussion.

✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.

✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock.

📌 Key Metric & Why It Matters

As a member of the Anonymous Quality Assurance Team, the key metric I focus on is improving the quality of support interactions. Each day, I stay mindful of avoiding negativity, understanding others' feelings, and using tools like ratings when needed.

At first, I just tried to be kind to strangers on 7 Cups. Over time, I started applying that kindness in my daily life. I discovered that I naturally care and listen well. This goal helps me stay focused, both professionally and personally, and reminds me to bring calm and positive energy everywhere I go.

🧭 Searching Soul – End of Life Reflection

(TW: themes on death)

At the end of my life, I imagine people saying I was kind, calm, and always tried to listen and help quietly. That I made people feel heard, even in small ways.

This exercise reminded me what truly matters to me—being a positive presence. It helps guide my actions each day in the QA Team and in life, making sure I stay aligned with my values.

Q: Why this goal of choosing a single metric is important in both your professional and personal life?

A: The North Star goal is important in keeping you on track to ultimately achieve what you set out to do. It will let you see the bigger picture to plan appropriately and cut out things that are distractions and not necessary for the bigger goal to be achieved. Essentially, it will guide everything you do. Both in your professional life and your personal life.

Q: Chpt 12 of Searching Soul book exercise

A: The exercise was quite difficult. I think it's also hard to be objective as you can't really know what people will say about you or if your self-image matches up to how others see you. But it's helped me think of ways I can improve my behaviour and focus on longer term goals.

One benefit of having a varied crew is that we can help members from all over the world. We can help members from various cultural backgrounds, who speak different languages and write in different time zones.

We may be courteous to others by remembering that our opinions are our own. We discover that although certain things are universal, others are not. We don't have to agree on everything, but we strive to be tolerant and accepting of differences on a regular basis. To engage effectively, we must be courteous and forgiving, as well as utilize language that accurately conveys our own views. Active listening is essential in this situation.

Heya sweetie (つ≧▽≦)つ! ( I should have mentioned Future mod instead, hehe 😜 )

I really liked your points about diversity and respect within a team. You explained well how having a varied crew allows support for people from different cultures, languages, and time zones, which makes the community more welcoming and inclusive 🤗💕

I also appreciated your emphasis on tolerance and active listening :) Your reflection showed maturity in understanding that people can have different opinions and experiences without needing to agree on everything 😊

Being respectful, open-minded, and willing to listen are such important qualities when working with others (*˘︶˘*).。*♡

You da best 🤗!

As a volunteer listener, a key metric I pay attention to is to find out how well treated each member is after a 1-1 chat session. After a successful chat, I occasionaasky request positive feedback to enable me toperformm better.

I have undergone the exercise in Chapter 12 of "Searching Soul Book". I intend to not post it here.

I’m a 7cups verified listener, my key metric goal is to help as many members as I can, while maintaining my mental health and avoiding burnout. The most important goal that I have is that my work saves lives.

✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. I did the excersize but I don’t want to answer, because it’s personal and it will hurt if I talk about it.

Why single metric is important because it can predict and fuel the long term growth of a company. It acts as a north star to help align with the right strategy when working to improve [personally and professionally. It can make the chaos of achieving a goal more organized and achievable.

This is a pretty existential exercise that makes you think deep about what you are doing with your life. I imagine people would say that I was empathetic and wise, which inspires how I live my life.

Ans. I have worked in Welcome Committee Team and I find out that rather than giving a new member so many information regarding how the app functions, it's better to just welcome and appreciate their presence.

I have posted in the 3 key things thread of what I'm doing to move 7 cups forward.

The goal of choosing a single metric ensures that we don't get distracted by other factors. It also male sure that we are focus on what we should do anc and don't get confuse on multiple factors. This is helpful in both professionally and personally.

Heya 😊!

I really liked your reflection here :) Your experience in the Welcome Committee Team showed a thoughtful understanding that sometimes a warm welcome and appreciation can mean more than giving too much information at once.

That kind of approach can really help new members feel comfortable and accepted <3 ( i felt it myself several times ❤️ )

I also agreed with your point about focusing on a single metric. Keeping one clear goal helps avoid distractions and confusion, making it easier to stay focused both professionally and personall

And I respect that you chose not to share the second exercise in detail. it’s completely okay to keep them private. Even so, your response still showed honesty and self-awareness 😊.

Your amazing, buddy ;)

Choosing a single metric is important because it helps us move forward to achieve our goals while also not overwhelming us, as opposed to choosing more than one. It also help us compare how far we have come compared to when we first started.

Focusing on a single key metric is important because it helps create clarity and focuses all efforts toward a unified goal, which prevents efforts being spread thinly and allows the team to measure progress with more precision and turns goals into actionable targets.
