We can be more respectful of different cultures on 7 Cups by actively practicing curiosity instead of assumption and working to educate ourselves in differences - this involves listening empathetically, using inclusive language and avoiding stereotypes.

It’s important to be mindful of time zones, holidays, and cultural events, and flexible when planning activities or hosting. Also, since English isn’t everyone’s first language, using clear, simple wording and avoiding slang helps everyone feel included and understood :)

We can welcome them to the site, and if we see they are from another country other than mine, I like to ask a few questions about where they live. Most people are happy to respond. We also need to be sensitive to things that happen in other cultures. Here in the USA, we move out of our parents home to be independent. In other cultures, people live with their family even if they're married and have kids. We need to be sensitive to this as someone could be telling me about their family dynamic which is very different from mine. I don't want to say to this person "Why on earth are you living at home? You should move out" is not something we can't say to almost everybody.

A diverse team can offer many perspectives. This helps because you might find a solution that would not have been found in a less varied team. A diverse team can also have different interests. Having a mix of people can bolster the team as it allows many types of tasks to be completed happily based on how they want to contribute.

2. Give everyone room to share their culture and perspectives
3. Be aware that miscommunications happen and chances are that there was no ill will intended
4. Actively acknowledge predisposed biases you might hold as a result of stereotypes and fight against them
