Daily Mindfulness Check-In November 29, 2021

Happy Monday everyone ❤️
Sometimes we apply rules to what we allow ourselves to feel or to think, example: “I don’t allow myself to feel and show anger”. However, this means the emotions will be suppressed. If you do not allow yourself to feel your emotions you might get caught up in an emotional trap.
How do you respond to unwelcome, tough emotions?

For overwhelming unwelcoming thoughts, I noticed I have to just let them flow, especially if I can spend some time off from all the work I am doing. I then let myself cry and just release them. Oftentimes, this happens to me at night so I can sort of allow myself to unload. Usually, after this release, I feel much lighter. I do not let them stay too long though by asking myself many times if these thoughts are just products of my worrying mind or upset mood. I try to refocus myself and always track which are part of what's happening in reality and what I can verify as true and which are products of my emotions.
After all the processing, I would take a deep breath, sometimes even pamper myself, and then do something that would boost my emotions. I don't know, it has been a routine for me. haha
I experience unwelcoming thoughts more often when I am near my period. Before, I would cry because I cannot explain my feelings and thoughts so they would worsen, but now, I understand my moods better and just embrace them. Giving yourself a seeeelf hug is also very helpful. <3
@amiablePeace77
I say affirmations to delete the negative thoughts. I like positive energy to flow in me and within me.
@exquisitePeace7976
One feels so much better when the energy flowing in the body is positive, much less tension everywhere, not only in the muscles.
@amiablePeace77
Yes!
When I feel overwhelmed with someone negative, I step back and identify the emotion. I sit with it for a moment, then find the place in my mind to just observe the emotion and let it pass. It's hard a lot of times, though, when it feels like it's wanting to take over. My most prevalent emotion is fear of judgment from others.
@Lshutes
I hope that with more practice of observing and letting go of your emotions your fear of judgment will lessen. It must be hard for you to try out something new or risking not to succeed in a situation. Something I realized in the past is the less I judge myself and the more I appreciate myself the less it affects me what others think.
@amiablePeace77
Before I sought treatment, when my anxiety reached its peak, my thoughts became obsessive and intrusive. This brought me suffering, and it got to the point where I couldn't function for most of the day.
Looking back, had I known what I do now, I would've had the tools to separate myself from these thoughts and overwhelming emotions. To observe the feelings and thoughts, I am no longer 'inside' of them. I can look at them objectively, I can see their shape and size.
When you're inside a storm, you can't really see how big it is. It looks endless from inside, and you feel helpless to defeat it. But from the outside, it's just a swirl of dark clouds. They will pass.
@tinyDream
I'm glad that getting treatment helped you to see things more objectively. I can relate to your thought of wishing to have had all these tools earlier. It would have been easier for me too and I believe for most people. I hope one day teaching coping skills will be part of school plans.
@amiablePeace77
I absolutely agree Peace! There really should be a course in school for topics like mental health and self care. The sooner we learn how to cope with emotions the better. 💛
@amiablePeace77 I try to first find a calm observing mind that can tell me what thoughts led up to that emotion popping up.
Then I can start to do traffic control and not let the thought and feeling take over. I can focus on something else.
I used to go into flight stage due to my PTSD. In fact, there were several months that I remember getting frozen a lot. (I think this was towards the end of 2020). This past summer I decided to start getting my life together.
I'm a middle-aged woman who's never been able to do what she wanted. I come from an abusive background and then had to raise my now 20yo son on my own. While I've been on disability I still had to work and thankfully that was from home. On top of all this, I also have health problems.
Fast forward to now...
I really feel like I'm in a great place and my PTSD isn't an issue for me. I've even grown a back bone lol
It's taken a lot of hard work but I put in the time and effort. I'm still on medications due to the way that PTSD changes your brain - something you can never change back (like a person with an amputation needs their brace, I need my mental brace).
I'm not really sure when the shift changed but it did and for that I'm thankful. I still spend time journaling, praying, and reading uplifting stuff but this is the best I've been in years. I even had a therapist look at me and be like "You don't need help, you're fine" lol
I say none of this to brag but to say it's possible to heal if you stick to the journey.
@amiablePeace77
HI Ami thank you for this great check in!!
How do you respond to unwelcome, tough emotions?
@RumpleSteeleSkin
It makes great sense to me what you describe about feeling your emotions, letting them stay for a while and then get back to your daily routine so that you never end up with an emotional bottle which is close to burst.
@amiablePeace77
thanks. It's a never ending skill one has to keep doing❤️
I find it quite difficult to deal with these type of emotions. A lot of the time I push them to the back of my mind or hold them in. Which isn’t great would love some advice on how to deal with these types of emotions?
@Ruthy220
I find the more I push my emotions away the stronger they become and it can become overwhelming to keep them inside. They serve a purpose and want to be heard. Have you tried to journal about what you feel? This is a link to a self help guide for managing emotions 7cups.com/help-managing-emotions
