If you could travel back to the beginning of the year, what advice would you give yourself? Looking back at the year what would you congratulate yourself for today?

💗PRACTICE SELF-CARE AND SELF-LOVE 💗

Looking back at the year what would you congratulate yourself for today?

I would congratulate myself for completing a Diversity and Inclusion certificate course. I worked with my students{one of them was given one final chance at passing their board exam} who all passed their exams last month. I learnt the Bengali, Malayalam, Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi scripts. I completed intermediate Hindi with the High Commission of India. I started learning calligraphy. I am looking after my mental and physical health. I also completed a two year spiritual class this year as well.

@FlatenedByLife my then me would just think it's my brother 😅 I don't think I could convince myself that I'm me at all, which does actually sound pretty entertaining. Sadly, I don't remeber this situation at all, so hopefully future me figures it out for next year 😂

@RidireEmerald I understand, the shock of learning you had an inexplicably older twin must have given you amnesia. 😂

@FlatenedByLife I mean I'm a triplet and me and my brother are identical and we haven't grown much since the start of the year so I really would not have been surprised and would have just thought he was messing with me XD even more so because he's just very slightly taller and I'm probably around the same hight as him at the start of the year.

Expect the unexpected. Learn to let go. Life is impermanent. Be prepared for change.

Id tell myself that this year was going to be rough, but it would have some really good things come of it. id tell myself to stay close to the lord, and that i was going to meet some amazing people. id congratulate myself for being a good person and putting others before myself, cause although i dont feel like im that kind of person all the time, looking back on my life i know i am.

I relate to this. Sounds like you have had a similar year to mine.

I hope yours continues to improve.

Hi EmmyMarie.
"stay close to the Lord" - maybe the most important we can do.

@amiablePeace77

I'm tempted to tell myself "it will be ok". But actually, I wouldn't tell myself anything, cos what happened makes me who I am and I wouldn't want to change that.

Things I would congratulate myself for. Saying no. Standing up for me. Believing in myself. Being there for others. Caring. Making mistakes. Getting back up after.

As for today, I made it through another work day.

@Enthenia sometime that is all I can do is get through the day and have a brief nap so I can get back to a healthy state of mind.

@soulsings most of my day seems to be swapping one headache out for another. If it's not work, it's public transit delays, pets, school....

@Enthenia there is an eastern philosopher that I paraphrase

If you can change somethkng, why worry about it.

If you cannot change something, why worry about it.

@soulsings I have heard that before but it is a difficult mindset to maintain. My current impossible job doesn't help anything either.

@Enthenia it is difficult to maintain, but it is my go to support when things in my head get messy.

Another one I just heard is to watch or imagine people and think silently, if in public, or in rpivate out loud:

"May you be happy."

When we do that it can diminish the problems and increase our happiness. I am willing to try.

CW Death, hospital, family

This year was my annus horriblus...

My youngest stepson seems to want to trigger me repeatedly and then blames me for it (I have DID and CPTSD).

It took a year to get to see a therapist (well 14 months) and last week they decided that they cannot help me and I'm on a waiting list for help. Again. Just before Christmas one of the times that is most triggering for me.

If I could start 2023 all over again...i wouldn't, knowing all this hurt was going to happen. Even being prepared for it by knowing in advance wouldn't be enough.

Don't worry about lame doctors that you don't trust - find others you do, quickly!

You will make progress on getting better and back to real life! Slowly but surely!
