Mindfulness Daily Check-in April 14- Saturday!
You encountered a lion in the forest. Just imagine!!
What will you do next? Fight- Flight- Freeze!!!
Probably any of the three.
This is what happen when any event that makes you feel nervous or stressed or feared of something, an outcome. We can feel the anxiety and stress as it lives in our body.
Now, in our mind, the amygdala works as the alarm notifying prefrontal cortex part. Prefrontal cortex is the more mature part of our mind that let us take an action in an emergency or alarming event.. Our action will be based on what our prefrontal cortex decided. Now, what could we do to train our mind to take a better action?
We need that our prefrontal cortex convey to the amygdala that it is all right and the situatikeon is under our control. And, when all is in control, we feel confident and no anxious anymore.
So, to train our prefrontal cortex for this, we could try this
Take a paper and pen & write down all you are feeling nervous and stressed about on it. Just don't think about grammer, punctuation, and all. Keep writing it. It is like sharing your nervousness with that piece of paper. Later, flush the paper or throw it away and just be done with it. It is like you need to name them to tame.
So, it is simply releasing your excessive nervousness and stress from your mind to let it breathe in clear space. When our mind is clear and spacious, we can feel better and generate better thoughts to face any challenge.
Use this technique once or twice in a week whenever you feel stressed and you will experience yourself as better and confident while facing your fears and challenges.
How do you tame your nervousness or stress before facing any challenge or fear?

@ASilentObserver
hi
@sensitiveShade5337
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Aww so cute! ❤️
@ASilentObserver
oh wow Silent this is really good I read it 2 times
hmmm how do I tame the nervousness/anxiety??? Well many ways as situations are different and the intensity is all over or sometimes nothing.
Mostly I run away. As anxiety and me don't really mix. Kinda like oil and pepper no matter how you shake it up, still wont mix up.
It can be something from my past coming up all of a sudden-
BUT the thing is almost 99% of the time my body and mind go right into mindfulness no matter what.
How do you tame your nervousness or stress before facing any challenge or fear?
Breathe - lots and lots of breaths
@DanaMH

@RumpleSteeleSkin
Thanks - is that on a webpage that I can link to or in an app some where?
@DanaMH
Dana just google breathing exercises, or mindfulness
I try not to fight the anxiety, since I know nothing bad will happen. Since I have had these feelings before. I slow down and take a deep breath. I try to relax and move on from the anxiety. Music helps a lot. Usually it will improve after some time.
@sail46
Sail you said it all right
Just relax-breathe and take it all in

@RumpleSteeleSkin
one of the best videos i have ever seen - the cat looks just like say "what you want? gonna just relax"
awesome
@amiablePeace77
haha
I run through situations in my mind to prepare. Then I already have plans for different situations so I don't have to panic in the moment. I know I have an explanation or a way out if the anxiety is too much. This could easily switch into uncontrolled worrying though, so I may try writing it out. I'm working through controlled exposure to my anxieties, and it is getting better. Emotions are so amorphous and its hard to know if they're useful or not, happy or sad. Sometimes its all just too much and then I shut down.
@BlueMossWeaver27
Blue, you got some good plans. I like the preparation and exposure part too, hope you find a way to prevent shutting down.
I try and use mindfulness and breathing. Tho sometimes it get's to much and I don't fight it
@Tinycupcake
Fighting emotions can make them stronger. i hope the mindfulness practise is helping you letting them be present for a while until they leave on their own.
@amiablePeace77 It's helping. I just started doing it so I'm not the greatest.
@ASilentObserver
Thanks for the check-in!
Some really good advise my teacher taught me, is to do a powerwalk before you have to do anything scary. Put on some music that makes you feel empowered, like a real badass superhero or something, or whoever else you admire because of their strenght. Than you start walking on the beat, big strides, but not so big that you trip or something. Your back is straight, your head up and your gaze focussed in front of you. Don't step aside for other people, let them step aside for you for once. You are the most important person right there, you are the famous movie star, you are the business person owning millions, you are the friggin' president!
Now let all that confidence overflow you and really, is that thing you gotta do really as scary as you think?
P.S. for people who are interested, there has actually been done a TedTalk on Powerwalking
@ASilentObserver Hi Obs! :) How are you doing? <3 I really liked this post, and your technique sounds amazing. I hope to try it out this week! :) Usually, when I am feeling nervous and/or stress before facing any challenge or fear, I try to organize what I need to do, how, and when. Sort of like a schedule or outline. It makes the challenge or fear seem easier to conquer, and helps me feel more in control and less nervous and/or stressed. :)
@SaimaK Hmm, Awesome plan Saima. Appreciate your efforts <3 Yay!! hUgs
@ASilentObserver Thank you, Obs! :) Hugs <3
I guess for me - a few ways:
- Try to get into a more rational mind - or, even an Observing mind - where I am think clearly.
- I allow myself to feel the fear - but here is the catch - I tell myself AFTER the thing that I have to do , that way I am not denying myself the feelings
- opposite to emotion action
- and my fav - TIPP skills - grab a frozen orange ( lime, grapefruit - whatever) or even cold pack or ice pack - brings down that nervous system
- grounding, grounding, grounding!
