Mindful shopping

Hello guys laugh

We all know the scenario, little time, get it done, in and out of the supermarket in shortest time possible.

We grab a few things we need and then we pass the ile with the chips, sweets and chocolates. Before we realize it a bag of chips or something else is in our trolley. How come? surprise It was not on the list! Hm, we move on. Same thing happens the following week and the next ones. We successfully created a habit without giving it a thought, could there be a healthier alternative.

There are some questions we can ask ourselves

Why do I buy it? Because I really want it or is it habitual?

Could there be a healthier alternative?

How much is my decision to buy influences by media?

@amiablePeace77 Hi Peace! heart How are you? I hope you are having a wonderful day and week so far! laugh Also, this is such an interesting and unique post! I love it!!! smiley

Why do I buy it? Because I really want it or is it habitual?
I usually do not buy chips, soda, etc. except once in a while, which in itself is very rare. However, I do love buying Archie Comics as often as I can! I really want it as I enjoy reading and collecting them! laugh

Could there be a healthier alternative?
I can buy a book instead, but I most likely already have. Lol!

How much is my decision to buy influences by media?
Hm... Not at all, I think.

What do you think about these questions? Please share your thoughts or if you feel comfortable how you shop.
I love these questions and this post overall! It was so interesting and different! smiley

I find sometimes the store puts something in the trolley as a substitution, doesn't tell me and that's how I end up purchasing it. The majority of my grocery shopping is done with a list online that I collect at the store. Sometimes I help load the groceries, sometimes I don't. Even when I help, the majority are already bagged so even when helping, I don't see everything.

@amiablePeace77 It's more about saving my energy, I find that grocery shopping can use lots of 'spoons'. They are supposed to say when there is a substitution right then, but some of the employees are better than others at checking if one was made. Luckily the store usually just refunds the money if I call about an item being a problem, and then I can choose what to do with it, whether it's used by my household or I give it away.

As my food intake is limited by food allergies and auto-immune (not to mention cash flow is low) - I don't and won't deprive myself of things I can still eat even if they are considered "unhealthy" by others. It's already frustrating to have to avoid so much and have to read the labels every single time I shop -- so if I want those Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion Chips and they're on sale - I"m getting them. If I want to buy cans of frosting to eat with a spoon -- I will. You go ahead and have the cake - I most likely can't eat it - but I'll enjoy my cans of frosting when and how I want. Ice Cream - boom, yeah, it's in the cart!

My splurges are usually things like flavored seltzer water, tonic water, cheeses, seasonings, red meat (yes, really - its usually too expensive to buy every week other than ground beef), and the occasional sushi/veggie pack.

So... I can't remember where I'm going with this other than ... I buy what I can afford and eat -- other than that, I'm not stressing on what it is or how others see it.

Thanks for the support. You choose your battles... mine will not be food oriented. I'm already trying to cope with what I can't eat -- literally grieving the loss of food I used to eat. So I'm going to enjoy what I can, when I can laugh

I cracked open a can of Chocolate Fudge Frosting last night and enjoyed 2 tablespoons full as my reward for surviving the day. I think that's probably less calories than I would have if it was a cake -- I''d probably eat a 1/4 of a cake before stopping.

Hehe this is an awesome post! I find that when I go shopping I always look for the deals and best offers - this often leads to me buying a lot of unhealthy stuff that I don't need :D it is nice to have a treat once in a while but it's important to make sure we have our sweet treats in moderation.

I find that having a strict shopping list can help to make sure you only get the things you need and once everything is checked off, you get out of there! By only getting the things you need and avoiding hanging around in the 'fun aisles' that have all the chocolate hehe, it ensures we stick to the plans we make.

Very true sugar, is very bad it can mess with your moods, the way you act it makes you more hyper. When you eat it you want more sugar. It's like a drug it is very very addictive.

Why do I buy it? Because I really want it or is it habitual?

Some items are habit like fruit and veg, others are maybe because they catch my eye and look good or are on special offer. I hate special offers especially the BOGOF buy one get one free or worse buy two get one free, But I don't want THREE! I really only want one! but I end up with three.

Could there be a healthier alternative?

Hmm not really I am pretty good with healthy food, I do like some biscuits though.

How much is my decision to buy influences by media?

Yes, tv drives me crazy I think food advertising should be banned especially chocolate advertising!

yes we have two supermarket chains inthe UK now Aldi and Lidl and neither do thes awful bulk offers, you get the lowest price for a single item. Sadly though they don't deliver so I am limited when I can get to them so I have to plan food

Planning food is a very mindful exercise.

Choosing what we eat is very important. I like to choose fresh vegetables and work hard on my diet to find enough protein and nutrients :)

Using colour too, green and red and white make a perfect meal :)

What a great thread, thanks!

Yes, food planning for can be very mindful!!

Myself I like to buy in bulk in some things and go home and freeze them. I have a deep freeze so that I can freeze things. Especially

when things are on sale . I also buy other things non food things. It save me money in the long run. I buy things in bulk that I use all the time. When it's on sale. Yes protein is very important in one's diet. It gives you energy. Peanut butter, Nuts, Meats, Protein Shakes, Protein Bars all have protein in them. Good luck on working protein into your diet. 😊😊😊😊😊!!

Tofu or soy curd is good in anything with a sauce. I also mix in with eggs or any dish that needs more protein. A little mayonaise or tahini and slice of tofu on a piece of wheat bread or in a wrap is wonderful. Dill weed, onion powder, veggies, tofu and any other spices you like (cayenne adds some heat) My favorite carry food is to drain 15 oz package of EXTRA FIRM tofu and let it sit in refrigerator overnight. Then drain again. I then slice in half and cut each half into 3 equal pieces about 2 inches by 4 inches (the long way) and sautee 10 minutes at 300 in electric fry pan or on stove at medium heat. Canola does not smoke at high heat. Before turning sprinkle soy sauce on top just a few drops and spices you like. Ginger, onion powder and cayenne are my favs.

Hummus is nice - I make in food processor many recipes on the web to google.

I trained my body over years not to get influenced by media but to see what is good for me based on how my body reacts and what i learned/am learning, also how I react on any kind of sweets or similar. Today my brain automatically tells me, this is not what you want (passing unhealthy food), it does not need an effort anymore but there are times i let go but very consciously. It took me quite some practise to get there but it is the right way to live for me.
