Hey All, I'm a Mom and a recovering addict. I take my addiction battle and parenting struggles each day by day and sometimes even hour by hour. I've been addicted to opiates for almost 6 years now and in recovery for 2 years, and I've had some relapses and dealt with my children being taken away and put in for custody, and I realized that it was controlling me, not the other way around and I had to do something about it. I refuse to choose addiction over my girls and I just recently was granted a 90 day home trial in which my girls are finally back home with me and after the trial is over my case will be closed. I've been looking to give back and help those people who are struggling with addiction or are in recovery stay on top. As a recovering addict, I personally don't support or attend in person meetings with other addicts in recovery or those still addicted because they talk about drug use a lot and offer addicts a meet all place where they can find other people who probably can and will get you drugs if you even hint at wanting any and then you just end up getting triggered and triggering someone else and making a drug connect. So I avoid any type of situation like that. It may work for some people but I know so many that it doesn't work for and that would much rather have the option to join an online peer support group and have access to those who are veterans in recovery and know how they feel and how they think and can better relate to them and they know they won't be judged or pacified by someone who has no idea where they are coming from and has had some sort of two day seminar training and now thinks they know what you are going through. I also know that more people would like to be able to have a access to and online peer support community in which they can use anonymously or not, to get education and important facts, ask questions and be open to people who can help them and have been where they are and have failed before and had to get back up and try again and my dream is to one day become a professional addiction recovery peer support counselor/Recovery coach, and I would take on not a just a New client and a monthly fee but take on the person's actual recovery and their success and failure and their goals and day to day struggles providing each one with his\her personalized roadroad to recovery plan. I would do a huge intake of information on my client and create a personalized plan for success especially for them, and instead of just handing them a plan and saying that they have to complete this alone and then disappear for a month before calling them and then lecturing them when they fail, I will make their success my priority and be there with them day by day and when they fail, I fail and instead of quitting on them, we will get back up together and I will not let any client that comes to me for help fail. This is important to me and I hope that one day I can bring this dream to life, maybe even meet one or more people who share my vision and work together to get it going as long as I do everything possible to make it happen.
