How do you focus on your goals instead of obstacles?

For me, goal setting needs to be clear enough to have room for hope and problem-solving: hope involves knowing that there might be more than one pathway to get there and so that helps me see the obstacles as challenges rather than mere distractions.

@SoulfullyAButterfly. That's what Im trying to figure out. But gettin distracted.
@BenittaJ
It's easy to get distracted in todays world. If you take a breath and then get distracted, just come back to your goal and continue on. Try writing it down and putting a check mark beside it every time you work on it. Writing it down helps me alot because I get distracted so easily. The check marks help me remember my progress and I LOVE writing DONE! when I finish something.
Building flexibility into my goal planning helps a fair bit. I know there can be a lot of variable factors, so I try to have goals that are still likely to be achievable even when an obstacle pops up.
@AffyAvo
That's a great approach. Being able to bend some without getting so discouraged.
@AffyAvo
nice one!
I don’t only focus on the goal but also on the conditions I need to be to reach the goal: when, where and how do I plan to do it. Good luck on your way. :)
i have no fkin goals
@littleBunny2375
Do you want any? They are a lot of work. BUT when finishing even the smallest one, it's kind of like hitting the lottery or like winning a carnival prize. Some people don't want the obligation of goals because they haven't felt the success of anything in a very long time.
Why don't you have any fkin goals?
@littleBunny2375
Hey Little Bunny, I re-read my previous reply to you and it did not convey what I was feeling or meant. What I was trying to ask was, do you not have any goals because...... ?
1) You are easy going and like going with the flow. Goals maybe cramp your style and free spirit.
2) You simply haven't found a direction but still enjoy the day.
3) You feel depressed a lot and just have no energy for goals.
Depression is a big and very common reason for a lack of goals BUT it doesn't have to be the only reason. It could be a little bit of all 3 above. Please share what you think why you have no goals? ❤️
@IsayUncle
I would go for number 3.
I undertand what you mean about the positiveness of having goals.
I've tried setting achievable goals this few months. But as soon as I am done with one, if I don't find anoter goal to fill the gap inmediately I fall into a pitt of despair. And then the goal is to be asleep as much as I possibly can - to avoid the unplesant feelings.
I trip over what's behind me, and I use the past to feel bad and I get stuck for days.
Hi @littleBunny2375
I am so glad you've been working on some goals for the past few months. That's fantastic. You said #3 was giving you a hard time and I totally get that. OMG, do I totally get that.
3) You feel depressed a lot and just have no energy for goals.
I'm really sorry to hear that continues to mess with you. By the way, I'm glad you read the back of that T-shirt. That was actually from a student that was on my bus and I asked him if I could take a picture of that when he was getting off to go to school. For a youngster to be promoting that level of wisdom, I thought was pretty cool. Tripping over what's behind us is a forever problem and we must move forward and always try to accept that we can't change the past but man oh man, each new day brings new possibilities. It might not be easy to see and feel them but it is true and they are there.
I also suffer from finishing a goal and then getting lost and easily distracted and really being pulled into a negative space of depression and I don't know really why. I have learned to call this my transitional stage. When it's the time of changing direction and I think I've learned;.. that when I put so much energy into the past goal, and then I complete it, I don't know what to do next. I have to transition into the next thing and I think that takes time to think about it get it planned and commit to it and in that time I think it's OK to rest and watch TV, sleep recharge your batteries. So for me I'd like for it to be OK ... it has to be, BUT I do get on to the next thing in a reasonable amount of time, as soon as I start figuring out the little steps of my next goal, I try to get there.😊.
Hey little bunny, I do a weekly thread about doing goals and we have some really nice people that interact and support each other over there. If you feel up to it, I'd love for you to join us. let me know if you'd like that or have the time.🤗, I'll tag you or post a link if you like.
@SoulfullyAButterfly
I actually have a deadline approaching in about six weeks for graduation so I have to finished with my semesters by then, so it helps to focus on that. For college, I'm a medical billing and coding student now I have to learn anatomy. So I focus on what I need to do...and I use digital planners as well. They help me to stay on track of deadlines, remember assignments and keeps me organized.
@littleCity1279
That sounds like a lot of studying. Six weeks to get it done. You can do it! Kick Butt on your test. Thanks for shareing about the digital planner. I had never heard of one of those before.... Old Coot, way behind the times. It sounded interesting so I checked them out on YouTube. VERY COOL and can definetly see how it'll be a great tool for progress and goal keeping. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤️
@SoulfullyAButterfly , setting short-term goals that will help me achieve my long-term ones. Checking off those small goals helps me see that I'm making some progress 🤍
@sadProgrammer
I agree, that helps so much. Little triumphs going for the BIG WIN is an approach that works. What a great method.
I try to set realistic goals and use tools such as journaling, to-do lists, mind mapping, affirmations and meditations for the specific goal. These things help me to understand my brain process and helps me understand where I need to improve in my perception so that I don't keep myself from being able to do succeed at what I am trying to do. My brain can be my own worst enemy, so it takes a lot of effort to keep it in a healthy and productive mindset.
@TeenyTinyAppy
Those are some great disciplines and that's really what we need for attaing goals. discipline, Thanks for reminding us of the importance of mind disciplines too. Awesome!
@SoulfullyAButterfly
I think about the people it could help, it doesn't always help but most of the time It helps me feel better and want to do 2 as mutch.
@SoulfullyAButterfly
An obstacle is nothing more than a seed for many unintentional blessings but with disgust and discouragement, we often crush it. JoRu
