10 Things To Say Instead of Ghosting
Sometimes the urge to ghost someone feels like the best option. Especially if you’re overwhelmed, unsure how to respond, or scared to communicate. We all run into these situations on both sides. Here are a few tips to help with communicating your feelings.
- I don't feel a connection romantically, but I would love to stay in touch as friends if you are open to that.
- I have decided that I am looking for something more serious, so l am no longer casually dating.
- I had a great time with you last night, but I don't feel we are compatible. It's nothing personal, but I thought I should let you know.
- It was great getting to know you, but I think we are looking for different things.
- I think you are a great person, but I just didn't feel that connection between us. I wish you the best of luck and happiness.
- I want to be honest, I have met someone else and want to focus on that relationship.
- It was great meeting you, but I'm looking for someone I have more in common with.
- Work has been crazy, and it needs to be my priority right now. I think it's best we part ways, so you are not messed around.
- I'm going through some personal stuff at the moment and need to work through it on my own. I hope you understand.
- I thought I was ready to start dating again, but I have realized I'm not. I'm going to take a break. Sorry. It wouldn't be fair for me to keep on dating knowing this.
What other ideas do you have to communicate how you feel?

thanks for the post! I think it's really important to let the person know, that way, we can avoid the trauma related to abandonment, and it shows we care about the person's feelings!

I like this post.
There's so many posts on this relationship forum that are rants about challenging relationships, it's lovely to see a constructive, preventative post.
All rants are welcome. I find ranting occasionally most helpful myself. So I wouldn't want to imply those posts are unwelcome.
But it's so lovely to see suggestions on how to build relationships as well.
Here's a suggestion for a follow up: "kinder ways to interpret ghosting online". Eg they fell asleep. They lost Internet connection. Etc.
Thanks.
@Jenna
nice suggestions for statements hope they work for some.
I feel many who ghost do so to end completely with no more contact. ... friends and I have used lines similar to those on your list......... and the person or persons took it as a negotiation point that they could work up from friends or change my mind ... it did not end situation only ramped up the pursuit.

Thank you for the post! 🌿
These kinds of soft-landing messages convey the kindness to the other person. They also change the emotional avoidance into a considerate caring.
