Clarification on the offsite contact community guideline!
Hi All,
It has come to my attention that some people are unclear on one part of a particular community guideline. Offiste contact is never permitted while you are a member of the 7 Cups community, including if you are on a self-care or deactivation break. While you are a member of this community, no matter your account status, this is the rule. There are no exceptions. Please respect it & keep yourself safe!

Affy, as ever, you are a shining light in terms of drawing attention to problems <3 I really respect both your commitment to 7 Cups and your incredible memory for threads written months ago. That was posted from a therapist account, and therapists are an exception. Advice to therapists about the forums contains the restriction, "do not solicit for clients", but apparently soliciting for clients for your research study is an exception to the restriction to the exception.

No personal contact information is shared between users in that example. A member of the 7 Cups staff is inviting participating in a research study. If you're interested, you can reach out to that organization. At no point do we invite two 7 cups community members to communicate amongst themselves off of 7 Cups.
We have done research studies in the past. I have just moved all of them to this section of the forum. Only research studies which are pre-approved by a 7 Cups staff member may be listed in the forum. All others should be referred to this research info page (which also linked in the footer of our website). We review these submissions for quality and relevance. If we agree to partner with an organization who has posted to this page, you will be alerted by 7 Cups staff, not an outside vendor/ researcher.
@Laura It's still sharing of a user in a one-way direction, and the way the rules are stated, that would be in violation of them.
I think it also becomes confusing to users when they see this, as many people aren't informed of who is an admin, therapist, listener or member when they first come to the forums.
The rules in gneral are not applied consistently either, how is one to know which one is serious (like sharing my email as a member with another member) when email and phone number is being shared in the forums and then ones that are not (like not having a cartoon as a profile picture) when again, others are also doing that.
@Laura I agree with this. Offsite contact should be prohibited since this can hinder much of the support and guidelines. Anonymity is one of the reasons why 7cups is just too amazing and breaking this will not be in favor of anyone. Thank you for this Laura.
