First Self-harm Help Monday!

Hello everyone! I m so glad we get to start a Self-harm Help Monday! This is the very first one. For those tagged welcome! For those who want to be tagged for the next Monday write in the comments below!

So, let's start!

Every Monday, reply with your 3 'W's in the comments:

1. Win: What is one small victory you had this week? (Even if it’s just 1 hour clean, or using a distraction tactic).

2. Wave: Did you face a heavy wave/urge this week? How did you ride it out?

3. Word: What is one encouraging word or piece of advice you want to leave for the person who comments after you?

Great! Now let's set the rules:

• The Buddy Reply Rule: Once you post your update, please read the comment right above yours and leave them a message of encouragement, a heart emoji, or a supportive thought!

• The Support Rule: Please be supportive to one another! Avoid unnecessary advices. Show empathy!

Dont forget:

💡 Reminder: Relapse is a part of recovery, not a failure. If your streak reset this week, you are still welcome here. Your clean slate starts the moment you decide it does.

I hope you like this. I m so excited to see the comments below🤗

Win: I've been clean of self harm this week

Wave/Word: I had a wave of paranoia from something that happened, but no heavy urge for self harm. Any negative waves of emotion that powerful can lead back to self-harm, so I'd always recommend calming exercises when needed. That said, I honestly don't even remember how I calmed myself down.

The only comment above mine is the beginning of the thread, so thank you for doing these programs, these can be helpful for a lot of us!

Its understandable! Thank you so much for writing this here! I m sure that it will help many people know they re not the only one going through this. I get how hard it must be if any negative wave comes up and you feel the urge to self harm but I believe in you✨️🤎

Win: I am 16 hours clean!

Wave: Last night I faced a really strong urge; I rode it out by just trying to distract myself and focus on my breathing while consciously thinking about what was around me, the feel of my clothes, etc.

Word: I would say, even if you did relapse, it's not a sign of failure and doesn't mean all the previous work you did for recovery means nothing. Everyone has a bad day, so let's not lose hope!

Thats just so great! Well done! It indeed is hard to do so. See you next Monday! I hope you keep it up.

Wave: Last night I faced a really strong urge; I rode it out by just trying to distract myself and focus on my breathing while consciously thinking about what was around me, the feel of my clothes, etc.

Thats absolutely amazing and really hard to do! Well done! The ways you described (distraction, focus on breathing and paying attention to your surroundings and feeling them) are really helpful ways for everyone who goes through this. Thanks for telling us!

I agree with that. Thank you for the kind message. I think it means a lot!

Well done for being 2 days clean from self harm! Its so amazing! Its hard I know but well done!

Wave: I relapsed and scratched myself this week. I was getting very agitated and couldn't think of any other way to calm myself

Its okay! Stratching is not as bad as cutting. Although it is considered self harm because you intentionally harm yourself its truly amazing that you didnt cut yourself. Its okay if you cannot control all the urges. Hear me out, doing something smaller than cutting with less impact on your body is like taking a small step to overcoming self harm so well done

Word: take care of yourself, no matter how recently you last relapsed. try not ti punish yourself.

Thats a great word! It indeed is true thst we dont have to punish ourselves if we recently relapsed because its all psrt of the cycle and we cannot just get over it overnight.

Win: I've been clean from sh for I think 2 weeks. Idk I've lost count lol. 🫠

Wave: I've been having urges off and on these past few days, I've just been trying to keep busy and distract myself. It seems to have been helping so far.

Word: relapse doesn't mean you've failed. It helps you work out what does and doesn't help. Your trying you best and at the end of the day that's the best you can do.

That's awesome!!! I'm so proud of you. I know how hard it is

@IzzyGamer

proud of you not sure this will be helpful to you but have you ever tried  writing a letter to why you want to  self harm what the feeling your having  be then writing out ways things that will help you not self harm and why you do not deserve  to acted in self harm ways as my therapist  had me do that it helped a lot  at time as it put the words out there

@HopeWithinDarkness

I've never tried that before. I used to like writing, but I stopped doing it after something happened. I've kinda been able to label why I sh but I'm not good at doing it. Maybe I'll try writing It out sometime. Ty for the suggestion (:

Its amazing! Urges will always be there until you completely get over self harm but hear me out: distracting yourself and keeping your mind elsewhere is an amazing way to do things!

Wave. I felt really upset with my family and soo tired today I thought I was going to faint. I felt the urge to once today.

Word. Your scars are beautiful don't let anyone tell you otherwise 💞

proud of you

your comment about the scars made me smile

i was told one times your scars are your battle wounds do not look at them as bad but look  at them as the wounds seen that show the unseen battles you have been fighting each day

Win: What is one small victory you had this week? (Even if it’s just 1 hour clean, or using a distraction tactic).

for me it was not allowing the missup  sometime ago to lead back in to self harm daily i had went years without self harming but i scratched  arm not long ago so yes mostly self harm free but finding slipups can happen even years free of self harm

2. Wave: Did you face a heavy wave/urge this week? How did you ride it out?

yes had waves of urges  this week  mostly due to fears i have over health stuff and family stuff i just kelp reminding self that i went years without mostly giving in to self harm

did not want a repeat of when in late 20's after not  self harming since age 12yr then crashing into self harm again but was worst then first time so not want to go back into that awful cycle so used self talk and also used that i have ones online that not down me and judge  me for having thoughts to harm self

3. Word: What is one encouraging word or piece of advice you want to leave for the person who comments after you?

remember that your not alone and others who safe none judgemental  will listen and help you  not to self harm when you need help even when you  already acted in self harm they support you and listen to you not harm you with put downs and negative  words

your never alone

thank you sadly self harm can even after years of being self harm free but it not allowing it to take over life again my self harm started very very young i can remember being like toddler and pulling handfuls of my hair out until i left bald spot often think if someone would have seen got me help that i might not have spent most my life struggling with self harm  but for many self harm and abuse go together  another sad thing  but  after losing parental rights i went off the deep end has taken learning many new coping stills to get to this point

think that the key learning coping skills that healthy and doing healing work that can be very hard a lot of the time
