Ask not what 7 Cups can do for you...
As 7 Cups members, you have a real stake in the workings of the site and the apps. We are here so you can connect and chat with listeners when you need someone to talk to, find community here in these forums, and follow a path that helps you grow stronger.
7 Cups has evolved over time and we continue to work on improving it: connecting features, fixing bugs, making things work better, minimizing frustration, and so on. We do this in collaboration with the community (that's you!).
I am responsible for the product, the user experience, the design, the interfaces: how 7 Cups work. I don't write the code, nor do I draw the illustrations. We do everything as a team and everyone at 7 Cups contributes.
As community members, you can help me by dropping by my studio forum here from time to time to give feedback or discuss your wishes or complaints about the site and about our apps.
We're actively working on a number of fronts to improve things and we can't do everything at once, but I can try to share what we're thinking and what's coming soon, and I welcome ideas and suggestions given in the spirit of helping us all find the best solutions.
I can't promise to use anybody's specific idea but I can promise to listen carefully and understand the idea and consider it fairly alongside other possibilities and be prepared to discuss why we chose one idea or another.
They say members are not as active here in the forums as listeners so let's prove them wrong.
Hi Krink! I found this site about a month ago and I've been on it daily ever since. When I'm bored / stuck on never-ending conference calls / just looking for sense of community, I found myself jumping in the forums. For a few reasons, I prefer this area to the group chats.
It's too hard to list all of the things that I like/love about this site so please assume that anything NOT mentioned is great in my opinion. Here are some of suggestions/ideas:
Activity thread: Once we view our notifications, they disappear. I'd like to be able to revisit those for a variety of reasons. I may not want to subscribe to the thread. Maybe I'm just trying to remember which user commented on something. I do like the auto-subscribe feature when you post in a thread. If i want to unsubscribe later, it's really easy to do.
Comment box in forum: In the app, I'd LOVE for the comment box to maintain the formatting that I enter when typing. In addition, it would be great if the box were bigger. You may already know this but, on the app, you lose all formatting when you submit.
Resources: It would be helpful to have FAQ, resources (including report forms, list of mods/listeners that can be notified in case of emergency), etc, somewhere easily accessible. Both in the app and online. Perhaps in the Settings icon or create a new icon on the bottom tray of the app. I've been provided with links; however, on the app, it's just too hard to store/access quickly. Trolls will post pics and I can't quickly find my resource. I just try hard to remember listener handles that I see in the forums frequently - and tag them.
Growth Path: From what I can tell, i can only access the Growth Path options when I'm NOT using the app. If it is available on app, i have not been able to find it yet. When using my laptop, I've noticed that some tasks should be shuffled more. If you just entered 3 things in your gratitude journal, one of the two options that are next available shouldn't be to enter 3 more things.
Group Chat: There are opportunities for improvement here but I'll defer to the people that use it regularly.
Listeners: Sort by age range in the "over 18" group. That's a HUGE window and some people feel more comfortable talking to someone around their own age. I'd also love to have some kind of group chat for this group as well - that might make me want to join group more often. I'd love for the site to store 1 on 1 chat traffic but I understand why that has been vetoed.
I hope this helps. You guys are doing a great job. Like I said, I'm on here daily so you're definitely doing something right!! Thanks for your consideration.
LOL, oh yeah....editing previous posts would be WONDERFUL.
Editing previous posts would be helpful, but a part of me feels like having permanent posts creates a sense of accountability so people think twice about what they post. That's just my opinion. Not trying to playing devil's advocate, there are pros and cons to both sides of course. :)
You're def right about that. I can live with my typos but it drives me nuts.
@MsJamison, if you ever want to have the typos in a forum post fixed, just send me a message and I'll do my best to fix them for you. All you have to do is provide me the URL and explain the correction that you want.
@Annie, thanks! It's usually minor stuff that irks me. Nothing worth bothering someone else to fix. Thanks though, that was sweet.
This is great feedback. Thank you for being so thorough.
As you might image, we are in the process of addressing some of these exact items. The site evolves faster than the apps and so the apps need to catch up, many other things are not as connected to each other as they could be.
I'll try to address some of the specifics as I can, but I believe you'll find we are looking at many of the same areas of improvement that you mentioned.
say, hypothetically, you could store 1 on 1chats, it would load so much faster, but, its not possible due to confidentiality reasons, as far as I know. Otherwise, really good suggestions
@MsJamison, I promised more detailed responses so here's a bit more:
1. notification history - we agree that you should be able to review notifications even if you've seen them already. stay tuned.
2. the comment box was just updated with the feed update. It still isn't my perfect ideal but let me know if it helps with that formatting issue or not.
3. easily accessible resources: totally agree! working on some ideas. Might organize them by community category (Anxiety, Depression, etc.).
4. growth path: the app has not inherited the path (or the navigation needed with it) but that is coming fairly soon, believe me, as part of an overall redesign we'll start rolling out in the next month. The contents of the growth path are also undergoing a process of review and iteration, and we expected it get more nuanced and sophisticated as we learn and grow ourselves.
5. listener age buckets: we hear this a lot, we agree, and we will get to it, but there are a few more urgent things that, honestly, we need to attend to first.
6. I didn't understand this: you'd love some sort of group chat for which group as well?
7. not storing 1-1 traffic makes sense right now given our commitments to privacy and security etc., but I can imagine in the future, perhaps when the need for professionals to keep logs becomes more important, that this rule could become more flexible (with proper consent, etc.). I've met more than one person who doesn't believe us when we say we do not archive the 1-1 chats but it's definitely true!
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
Thank you so much for the update! After being on the site daily since I found it, I had to take a break the past week or so. Lots of improvements have been made during that time! I'm excited to check them out.
#6: I was referring to a group chat organized by those age groups that I had mentioned.
Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication to improving the user experience. It's really encouraging to know that our voice is heard.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn thank you for the opportunity to make the site our own and to allow for suggestions. I joined last month and have been on 7cups every day since. I think it is a great way to start my day and I am very excited for the growth of the community. I like that the mission statement is posted for all to see so that way as the community grows it stays on track and focused.
Wow, my posts were deleted? Wow. Some nerve that person has. Guess you wanna mute my voice to? Reminds me of the society we live in today. 99.9% garbage. Next time, if you want me to not talk. Look me in the eyes and ask me.
How do u start a thread
To start one in this forum (my "studio"), go to the parent page of this one, either by clicking Krink's Studio in the breadcrumbs near the top of this page, or by clicking on the handy dandy link I just made in this post.
Once you're there, you should see a "Create New Thread" button to start a new thread.
If you meant somewhere else, it would be the same process but again you need to be at the "top" of a forum and not inside an existing thread to do it.
Does that make sense?
Ummm maybe im stupid lol im still tryna figure out this website only been on it a few days
It's a bit easy to overlook in the app but it is there. For example, scroll to the top of this page and you'll see the path for this topic. Offhand, I believe it was something like Welcome / Krink's Studio / etc. Something like that. Those are hyperlinks. This is true for every forum post you encounter. Click on the parent page (usually the first or second link) and you'll be redirected to that 'forum home page.' At the top of that page, you should see an option/button to create a new thread.
Sorry that this is a bit disjointed. I'm terrible at typing when using my phone.
Forgot to add... To get the most help/views/organization, it's best to find the closest/most relevant parent page in which to create a new thread. For example, scroll up and click on Welcome. It'll break down a variety of introductory/faq/suggestions type posts. There are a variety of forum parent pages that you can use. I hope this helps. Ps) I learned this from others in the forums. Circle of love, right?
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn this is my second tag in the day, sorry. I just dropped by your studio and wanted to add my 2 cents to this as well, you mentioned how an edit for forum posts was a possibility, I was thinking about it and even if we can't edit our posts, would it be possible for a "preview" button to be added, for us to see how the post/thread would look before we actually submit the response, I think that would help immensely and this way we would make fewer mistakes.
(P.S: I made a typo in the feed thread and that's why I wanted to add this thought here, because I couldn't fix it, haha.)
thanks for the suggestion.
preview is a very nice solution, especially if it's optional so it doesn't slow things down. a lot of blog software offers that sort of choice.
I know it might be hard to implement, and yes, Wordpress has a "preview" and "save draft" button which helps a lot, but I realise this site is a different aesthetic. Just wanted to know if you'd considered it, and seems like you have, that's all, thank you.
I would just like to say . what great ideas the site has come up with. I too am addicted to the site , every morning after my coffee and toast I on line . I love it! 😊
This is to funny! I am glad you chose to be addicted to 7 cups ...
about notification (pc/lappy) messages ..why is no scroll option?
(near/on the bell icon)... it will be good if you put scroll on the notification messages... so we can choose/pick which topic we wish to read first or close.
for sample if my notification messages more than 10, its hard for me to see which one the most important to read first (if i only has few minutes to get online here) the only solution is click delete/close before read it.
@charmingHeart
this is a mistake we made in the initial build and one we plan to fix. it's just a bit tricky given how the menu was built.
it is probably the No. 1 known issue right now so we'll tackle it as soon as we can.
@charmingHeart
I am currently tracking these and other Top Ten Most Wanted bugs and problems 'n' stuff in a new thread in my studio.
i wanna report again :p
sometimes... the follower and following numbers not show up ... its like loading loading loading ..
maybe only me got this problem?
@charmingHeart
it's probably not you.
there is a planned (maybe a week out) effort to clean up the feed database (in a somewhat boring-to-most-people technical sense) that should help with that problem a lot.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn OK, glad to know, and thank you for your replied
The video clip in the growth path about the orangutan and lion cubs doesn't work. I sent a message to tech support. Was that right or should I have reported it to you Krink? Also the option of naming 2 things I've done well last few days has disappeared from growth path, but maybe that's being sorted out as we speak and I just need a little patience.
@Chiaroscuro1
Best place to report such bugs is using the form at the bottom of the Support & Feedback page (on the Community menu).
It never hurts to tell me too! but if you want to be sure we track a bug successfully and it doesn't fall into a mess on my desk, so to speak, please also use the form.
