I love the video "My Black Dog" found here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiCrniLQGYc

It's a great video to teach people about depression and help them to empathise with sufferers. It also can help validate your feelings if you suffer yourself. Definitely worth a watch! :)

Superb thread Laura...

I'm sure you've heard of Headspace. They have some very well-edited, fun and accessible videos on mindfulness, developed from a psychological rather than spiritual foundation. https://www.youtube.com/user/Getsomeheadspace

BeMindful.co.uk is another great site, supported by public funding, with its own mindfulness course. Users have to sign up and take the course via the site, but it is very good quality and developed with professional input https://www.bemindfulonline.com

Mind, the UK mental health charity, has a longstanding reputation with professionals and has some innovative resources on its YouTube channel. It recently ran a campaign for "mental health selfies", and has a collection of podcasts from celebrities and others on aspects of mental health? from eating disorders? to depression? to crisis intervention. They are a driving force in this field, and do much to dispel the stigma and myths around mental health. https://www.youtube.com/user/MindWebteam

Relate is a UK based relationship counselling service and has some resources for those struggling in relationships of any kind - whether romantic, familial, sexual or otherwise. https://www.youtube.com/user/WatchRelate

As for individuals, I'm a fan of Dr Evans' videos. They're really creative, quirky, intelligent, and help shift perception on topics that go beyond mental health to the full spectrum of health and related issues. I love them. https://www.youtube.com/user/DocMikeEvans

TriDeltamakes great videos about body image awareness. This is one of my favorites! My only reservation about this video is that it is targetedtowards women when issues around body image affects all people.

The YouTuber hannahvancouveris a personal favorite of mine. She is a recovery person. She is recovering from anorexia, bulimia, and self harm. She suffers from anxiety and depression on top of that. She makes great mental health videos. 100% recommended!

Here's one really informative and animated video about depression, what it does, how it feels like and how to deal with it. It's made by WHO (World Health Organization), I often use it when talking to people that struggle with depression, I highly suggest it.

This video is about awareness of mental health issues in general. It's targeted towards college students, specifically international students, but it is super clear for people struggling with some myths or just basic facts about mental health:

My favorite mental health videos are:

This is water: About how we rush through daily life without regard for what we fill our minds with.

summed version with pretty graphics:https://vimeo.com/68855377

long version:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CrOL-ydFMI

"Depression:the secret we share" & "How the worst moments define who we are": Both by Andrew Solomon, and about the things that we often forget to mention when we talk about depression.

https://www.ted.com/talks/andrew_solomon_how_the_worst_moments_in_our_lives_make_us_who_we_are

"The optimism bias": We depressives often feel that we see the world for what it really is, and I believe that that's very often the case also. Here's a compelling arguement to *not* see clearly, and instead be a bit "too" optimistic.https://www.ted.com/talks/tali_sharot_the_optimism_bias

"Why aren't we awesommer?": About the way our mind sees the world, and especially what makes something "true".https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr6VawX2nr4
