April 5: Therapist Directory & Community Launch
Hello everyone!
Many of you have been reading about this update in this thread.
Today, we push this update live. For the most part, this will not impact you or your experiences on 7 Cups.
But there is one part of this that will impact you: updated menu layout.
#1) "Find a Therapist" added on far left & Under "Get More Involved" you'll see "Join our Therapist Community"
#2) Update to status & account information
This change will launch at 9AM tomorrow morning! (Tuesday, April 5)

Note: it will take some time for the therapist community become active. We'll be inviting them to sign up over the next few days and weeks and you'll start to see this side of the site grow and thrive!

I tried to sign up with my email used on my Listener account by couldn't. Any chance to make it possible to use same email for both listener & therapist accounts? @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn @Laura
@cristiana33 - because therapists and listeners are both similar roles on the site right now I do not think it is possible to use the same email address for both, I'm afraid.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn To me, this makes sense. Not only because the roles are similar but because I've seen listeners deal with getting hacked and wouldn't want both accounts compromised if one or the other was compromised.
@Cadence - we accidentally lost the colors on the notifications. when they're back let me know how that helps legibility.

@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn I have to say, you had a great many variables and factors to work with and it will take some people time to get used to but I think you, @Laura, and @LaraGregorio -as well as the rest of the team that worked so hard on this update- pulled it off beautifully <3 I love the new layout!

Wow! I am seeing the new layout now. Congratulations to everyone.
Can you give a rough ballpark estimate on the current number of registered Therapists and/or the rate it's growing? I keep getting the same 2 suggestions regardless of the zip code and distance I enter. I'm not trying to be nosy, I'm just trying to get an idea of when I should check back to find someone.

Good question...well, we only launched an hour ago, so it's hard to say the rate, but I imagine we'll have more therapists listed by the end of the week.
This is all well and good but the big question is: when does the update of renaming this site to 8 Cups happen?

Yes, therapists around the world can be listed. But, you do have to be licensed to practice independently.

One day they will eliminate all the listeners on here and this will turn into a therapy site!

I am so not looking forward to that! I love 7 cups and I love helping others on here! I love this...What will happen when the therapists take over and then listeners will not be useful anymore?

That will not happen. Glen specifically said their focus will always be mainly on free services provided by listeners. So don't worry! The heart of 7 Cups will never die. @GlenM @Laura

@cristiana33 @dancernhealer I'd like to reiterate this. with therapists we can start to offer a more comprehensive range of services but the unique value of 7 Cups will always depend on the amazing phenomenon of people listening to and caring for each other as volunteers.

Listeners will always be useful. They will always be the heart and soul of 7 Cups. The therapists will be an addition, not a replacement. Never a replacement!

@Dancernhealer As someone in both roles, I can tell you I only chat in 1:1s with members on my listener account, not on this account. I don't want to deal with the complications involved with providing direct therapy services as an identified and licensed provider. Unless I ever leave my current job, that won't change.
And there are way more general listeners than professionals here anyway. I can tell you that as a member too, some of the most effective chats I've had in my own times of need were with listeners (and other members/guests in group chats) with absolutely no professional background in this field. All roles on this site are valuable. While I'm not management here, I'm pretty sure that's understood up top. Besides, a lot of people can't afford to pay. They would lose significant site traffic if they lost site of that. @GlenM has also made it quite clear through the years that he wants the site to always be accessible to everyone and for the majority of the services on the site to remain free.
Thank you so much for taking the time to type this all out. I hadn't read Glen's post on his promise but after reading this and that original promise post, I do feel much better about the whole situation! I do want you all to feel welcome here! Welcome to 7 cups! I am so glad that we are improving this site and adding on to this amazing place! I know it may have seemed like I didn't want you gus here, but I wasn't informed enough. I am however 100% sure now, that this change is for the better! Thank you for being here for the members too!

@Dancernhealer - that really won't happen. 7 Cups depends on this fundamental connection between listeners who volunteer and care for others and mutual support.
if we could support everyone with professionals that might be different but 7Cups thrives because to reach everyone a lot more people need to help than just specialists and the professionals and experts who do this for a living need to be able to help those who who really need the kind of help they can't get from a listener.
that's how I see it anyway.
@Laura The new logout button is great! Thank you! On "Find a therapist" - I like it! Is it therapy by online chat as well, does the option exist? Or would users need to actually visit the therapists?
I also really like the "Talk to someone" just beside "Find a therapist", however, it only comes up for me before logging in. After being logged in I get "Path" beside "Find a therapist" instead of "Talk to someone", but maybe this is on purpose?
Anyway, thanks again for the continuous efforts to evolve the website and community! Great job!

The online chat with therapists is coming; that feature is just not ready yet.

@miraculousPeace - once you log in, the Chat menu has the options that we show guests under "Talk to Someone"
you can browse listeners or make a general request there and when we launch online therapy it will be accessible from there as well.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn Thank you! Yeah, just like the "Talk to someone" name and the fact it was right next to "Find a therapist", but "Chat" works as well :-) Plus others might prefer as is. Anyway, thanks!
