March 7: Age Categories!
Hello all!
I am excited to make this announcement! You all have been asking for MANY months... for better age identifiers!
We are excited to announce that by the end of this week, this will become a reality.
The age categories will be:
- Teen (under 18)
- 18 - 35
- Above 35
The updates you can expect:
1) A group support chat room for 35+ community members
2) On browse listeners the ability to search by age. You will be able to search for a listener by one of the age categories listed above. You will be listed within a specific category depending on the DOB you entered on 7 Cups when you signed up!
This is a suggestion box success! Big thank you to everyone who has left a suggestion! Keep them coming! We are excited about this!

UPDATE:
If you are a listener, and you would like to not be included in the age categories, please just fill out this form to opt out.
Those who submit, will have their ages nulled and not be part of the age sorting update. We hope to accomodate everyone by providing this option.

After browsing through this thread, I really appreciate how hard working& thoughtful 7cups is putting into the site to make everyone happy :)
This is quite an accomplishment imo! and well explained as to how the decision came to be.
I have been one of the members wanting this feature for a long time!!! So was pretty excited xD
And I just have to say, the difference feels great! now I don't have to awkwardly ask a listener their age range and have some feel weirded out and say "I prefer to keep anonymous" or tell me "but age doesnt matter!"
Sure, it's not black and white, I don't think one is right or wrong, but I think the great thing about this site is that I can chat with a random new listener, OR browse and decide who I want to chat with. I also sometimes want to chat with a certain gender at times. Like I want a womans perspective (physical wise, emotion wise) or sometimes I would like to get a guy's perspective on certain things.
At the end it's not that I want to define someone by age, gender or country, but the experience, culture through that certain person is a way for me to try have someone relate to me.
But I do see how tricky the gender section can come off. Although from reviews, you can pretty much tell whether a listener is a "she/he" and sometimes it's funny when some mistake the listeners gender xD But then it makes it seem like it shouldn't matter.
Anywho! I am looking forward to the upcoming features!

Being a listener in the (well) over 35 category, & having had the listening experience I've had here, I think this is a great starting point. Many people have an idea of the age range they'd be comfortable talking with, for their own personal reasons. Many times I have been asked about my age in chats & generally have not found it to be a problem for myself or my members. However, sometimes people want to talk to a contemporary (whatever their age group) or seek the perspective of someone older or younger! In any case I think this change will only further our ability for members to self-match with the best possible listener choices for them! Thanks for all your hard work making this happen. Yay!
The lovely Age...I really miss that was a childhood...pure,no harm,truly,innocent.although,we grown up...wish the pure and honest still inside my heart as a child.....
I love this new update! I just have one question? If you're logged into a teen account you can no longer search for people who are over 18? Is this going to be a permanent thing? Just it can be really useful sometimes when you need to search for someone! Thanks <3

In fact, I just logged to to see it on guest and can only search teens? Did I break something? XD
@Charli - I'm not sure, but I'm tagging in @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn to know if this is just a bug, or a decision.
@Anomalia sonds like a bug for sure. teens need to be able to find adult teen listeners, and guests need to be able to search all

Yep that's it! But I logged out an went on a guest account and had same issue so not sure it's age related? If you need a screenshot let me know and I'll PM you one :)
@Charli - I tested from a guest acct and had no problem so maybe there was a cookie affecting it for you?

I logged out and in guest can't search for teens! So:-
~On a teen account can only search for teens
~On guest can't search for teens, just adults
