Member Email Verification for Group Support Rooms
I'm excited to announce that we will be rolling out the member email verification update to all group support rooms! Check out Laura's original post about this for more information on what we mean by verified email. The update has already been live for forum and seems to be working well, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this impacts the rooms.
Meaning, anyone who enters the group support rooms must have a verified email address. This update is currently in development and I will let you know as soon as I have more information regarding timeline.
I'm hopeful that this update will continue to increase accountability and overall safety in the rooms.
Subscribe to this thread and stay tuned for updates!
@Kate will you guys be banning spam-mails too? (such as mailinator.com, 10minutesmail.com, guerillamail.com, etc)
@Kate
YAY!! Thank you for the up date.
Thank You!! For all of your hard work!! 😊😊😊!!
@Kate OMG THIS IS GREAT!!! YAYAYAYAY!!!!!!
I'm actually disappointed to see this. I think this could be a big deterrent for those who may benefit, and those who are choosing to be disruptive often aren't deterred as easily. I would have supported certain rooms being badgelocked to verified members, but not all of them.
A reminder to those who do not feel comfortable verifying the email they used when joining - you can change the email address connected to your account if you want to verify with one less personally identifying.
I agree. I recently recommended 7 Cups to someone, and she thought she'd be able to talk about her issues anonymously. But when she came here the website wanted her e-mail address, so she went somewhere else to talk about her issues.
@AffyAvo
@AffyAvo Thanks for reaching out Avo, and YES, thats just it, we need to find this... balance, between making sure 7 Cups is safe (Because without these safety measures you have people going into the rooms, being unsupportive to others, making threats, etc etc)... And helping people feel anonymous, and as a mod I will tell you, We need these safety measures in place. However, I think that members who haven't verified their emails should be able to go onto the chats with a supportive listener, Just not In a room with others. I think those who do go through with the precautions, and verify their email will be very happy with the choice they made in terms of having full access to a supportive community
Will we still need to verify that we are human for the group support rooms? It seems silly to have to do that multiple times for an account, and even sillier to have to do it multiple times for a verified account!
Tired of the continuous anxiety attacks.
@AlwayssAnxiouss same! The anxiety community was one I just cannot go back into. Someone mocking my illnesses was....panic inducing.
Great ☺
@Kate
