Apologizing in the right way

Saying "sorry" the right way isn't just about admitting you messed up; it's about showing you're grown-up, caring, and actually want to make things right. It’s about knowing what exactly went wrong, honestly feeling bad for hurting someone, and owning up to what you did.

There are various benefits connected to receiving but also giving an apology, such as

  • When someone apologizes, we stop seeing them as a personal threat.
  • When we finally have the courage to admit that we messed up, we start feeling way better about ourselves.

Participation question:

  • How do you feel after receiving an apology?
  • What emotional impact does it make for you?
  • Do you find it hard to apologize?

Seeking Help

Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries, which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

  • How do you feel after receiving an apology?

It usually does feel really nice when someone apologizes, like it's not just me that makes mistakes sometimes.

  • Do you find it hard to apologize?

It makes me feel a lot better to apologize, so I find it fairly easy. I am one of those people though who can tend to over-apologize for things that aren't really my fault. I find it difficult at times to tell if someone is pulling the wool over my eyes, so sometimes I look back and realize they just made me feel like I'd done wrong to relieve their own guilt.

It’s hard to apologize. A lot, people choose to use anger and lack patience. Some people, are too reactive and I fear escalating things. I know, those people later on hold petty grudges. I’ve encountered this, a lot at work. One girl, that did apologize tried to constantly belittle me and publicly voiced, how she needed to stop being a witch with, a hat. And was surprised that, I didn’t hold a grudge. So many, people like her, truly vile and emotionally abusive. Makes, it hard for me to feel safe working etc. I don’t know, I’m just praying for discernment, onto where next to go. No I don’t work there anymore ☺️.

@secretFriend2402 I had very little personal interaction with people at the office and that meant fewer opportunities to get into people's "mud."

@amiablePeace77 this is such a great post. I feel like not many people, including myself, understand what it takes to give a sincere apology. I agree with you; I think it's very important that you've developed from the person you were when you made the mistake. Thank you for this post! It made me think back about myself and my actions :)
