Regaining happiness after a setback

User Profile: amiablePeace77

A University of Toronto study found that nearly one in four adults aged 60+ who reported poor well-being were able to regain optimal wellness within three years

The findings suggest that with the right lifestyle, mindset, and community support, thriving later in life is not only possible, but also common. Excerpted from How 1 in 4 older adults regain happiness after struggling.

Here are some ways to ask yourself to regain balance and happiness after a setback:

  1. What does this loss or setback signify to me? What do I make of it?

  2. What emotion(s) do I experience when I think about it?

  3. How is my life different right now?

  4. Who are the people I can rely on to help me get through this unpleasant situation?

Participation question:

How does your support network look like when experiencing a setback?

Seeking Help

Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

My support network is my family .

They keep me grounded and humble and they tell me as it is, no sugar coating anything 😁💜

@Amanda84

It is most helpful to have people who tell you honestly what they think in a constructive way. Glad you have your family as support!

I hope you will come here if you need support. It's hard to go through life without anyone to talk to.

How does your support network look like when experiencing a setback? Pretty empty and silent. I'll admit, some of that is my own fault because I struggle to ask for help. But sometimes someone ask "How are you really doing?" and having them genuinely listen, is really nice

@mytwistedsoul

I hear you! "How are you doing" is often used as part of a casual greeting but some people really want to know how you feel.

How does your support network look like when experiencing a setback?

Other than myself and the friends I have on here, 9 times out of 10 I have no support network and am on my own no matter what I’m dealing/struggling/living with. This is how it’s always been despite the fact that I’m always there for people who most of the time aren’t there for me when I need them. But I also realize being negative about things doesn’t help and only makes things worse.

@akunknown

I wish you would have more support in your environment, but it shows great strength that you always get through your challenges and not get caught up in a negative thinking loop. Glad you joined 7cups!
