Coping with Change

Many times we expect things to go a certain way and when they don't turn out like that, we are very disappointed.

  • How do you deal with stress when things change unexpectantly or quickly?

How do you deal with stress when things change unexpectantly or quickly?

Usually deep breathing and positive self-talk helps me. I try to take one step at a time.

I regroup and focus on what went wrong and fix the mistakes so I can go foward.

With honesty.

With patience.

With gentleness.

I allow myself time to process, vent, feel what I need to and then I assess the situation and what's in my control 💚🤗

As long as it is not a life-threatening situation, that is what "Ah là là" and the Gallic shrug are for.

@Fradiga or ne rien (it's nothing?) perhaps!

@soulsings

"Ce n'est rien" is not always the best to say, unless you want to say you're okay when something spectacular happened and you were almost harmed. It's usually said when someone apologizes to you.

You remind me of the situation I was in, decades ago: Arrived at the airport with a small child, a baby, a lot of luggage plus shingles on my neck, fever and an ear infection... to be told that having both babies on my passport was not enough to bring them back to the USA. They were apparently not covered by my diplomatic visa and I did not have their birth certificates with me which proved they both were born in the US (how could I have known)? I found a phone, called my husband who managed in one hour to talk with the authorities and get us through. This was before the TSA or internet were around.

This is a situation where it paid off to stay calm. When the airport staff finally got us through with apologies, I was unable to think of saying "ce n'est rien!"

@Fradiga thanks for that story and tip. My French is so basic I wouldn't use it as more than a passing phrase.

Not reacting is very good for conserving energy.

@soulsings

Simple answer? I don't get my hopes up in the first place.

@courageouspanda2006 hoping for spectacular results is a sure road to disappointment but I still try to accomplish goals.

@soulsings

There are times I am able to deal with it and just face it accept that some things are not predictable.  But most of the time it really stresses me more.  Gives me anxiety cause I don't know what to do.

But I tell myself to breathe, clear my mind so I can think better of a solution.

@Jewelmoon17 I try to connect with the breath and that helps me be calm.
