What is currently helping me is to rest as much as I need, and take a step back from all the things I had been involved in.

The notion of adversity can be very different from one person to another. It also does not means that adversity affects everything in one's life, hence that some purpose is not affected.
I (73F-fr) suppose that since I am in palliative care, a lot of my life is affected, but mostly because I cannot physically move and work as I used to. Also, memory lapses are frequent due to the meningitis crisis of last year.
I do not mind all the medical appointments (averaging 4 every week) either. I do mind that it requires a ton of paperwork and apps and this living room ought to be better organized.
However, retirement income and savings are the same (no medical payments in France); plenty of social life, whether in person or online; still interested in the news out there plus history, linguistics, and other subjects (thanks to the internet, I get all that right at my fingertips plus the occasional shopping); the presence of my dog and being in the old family home in the countryside are always a comfort too!
