Trust is built can be different for different people..... for some they seem to have no issue in trust give trust freely and hope for the best .....only after bad outcomes consider what they really need to build trust. Others who have had been let down many times have much higher hurdles to trust.
For me trust is about clear communication...... that the person we want to trust knows and understands our expectations in all cases. Trust but verify has become my normal.
For example if we have a casual conversation and we expect them to not repeat some information sometimes we may need reinforcement that both parties are aware of our expectations or we are aware of theirs.

It's definitively much easier to trust someone when the person has not been through a number of bad experiences!

Trust is built when one feels safe to share important information to others. There exist some bonding between the two parties that is created through communication.
To be able to build trust with someone, one needs to create an understanding to the other person through clear communication. In this way both parties can help each other out and thus build trust.

Trust is probably the most important but fragile gift we can have.
If one wants to be trusted, they are reliable and loyal.
Betrayals, pranks and lies may destroy it in a minute.

I agree with you; trust can easily be broken if a misstep is not addressed properly.

A misstep takes a lot to be repaired, however, and it will rarely be the same. You can fix a broken ceramic, but it won't be as strong and usable as before.

How is trust built?
From my own experience, trust is built on taking the time to get to know someone while being as open and honest with that person as they are with you, and testing them and their level of trust if trust has been built up enough out with a secret that isn’t too risky so in case they don’t keep it a secret you won’t be too unhappy with them about it.
What do you need to be able to trust someone?
Someone you truly know enough to trust them with everything you tell them. This is one of the most difficult things I’ve always lived with my entire life is trusting someone other than myself before I was able to trust my own self even bc of how lots of people are - they convince you that they can be trusted, then break it without any hesitation first chance they get.

I always have that trust test with everyone not just bc of experiences but for precautionary purposes as a safety measure. Sorry I should’ve mentioned that before.
I think for me the first thing I look for is empathy & compassion. I also look at how they talk about others when “others” is not in the room.

Good point! I too believe observing carefully how much others talk about other people not being present is a good way to find out how much a person can be trusted!
@amiablePeace77 trust takes time. That is why one angry outburst is so dangerous. It can shatter the trust that takes years to build up.

I agree, trust is fragile, but I believe it's worthwhile to try everything to rebuild it if the relationship feels worth it.
@amiablePeace77 I'm not sure🤔🤔 I guess we just have to trust people in the first place, to know whether we can trust them in the future🤔
@Tinywhisper11 I use the "baby steps approach" (I made up that term) First I reach out a little bit and if they do not bite my hand I reach out a little further. It takes me a long time to get close.

i could give an idea but that is validated by the OP or not. So I will sit back and hope you answer your own question.
i actually don’t have a clue so just being a menace in hope to receive the answers.

What works for me is to share little things with them and if it works out well, I might share more with them. I also observe a person how they treat others and myself, listen to their beliefs and values.

that is all I currently work with. If it’s not just me utilising it maybe it’s not so bad.
the anxiety caused when the small starts to jump towards the guarded level of trust. Taking the leap of faith while hoping that more people are trustworthy than waiting to burn you is a Russian roulette. One bad intentioned person not shaping your whole perspective is hard. Especially if you take the cautious route.
Does trust ever exist without fear?
