Photo's and memories of my grandfathers. My father was an alcoholic. I looked up to both of my grandfathers so much.
I guess that's why I'm so old school. I open the doors for ladies, always say hello, address everyone by sir or ma'am, etc. Old school manners that are not very common in todays world.

O
This is a picture taken by a friend of mine in the Spring of 2013. This young crow probably thought that my hair reminded her of her parents' nest. Eventually, she returned to the wild, with a magpie as a flying coach and companion. I was 61 at the time. Good times...
@Fradiga Such a precious picture ❤️
@Fradiga. Omg how cute!
@Fradiga Wow! I’m impressed with how calm you stayed. It probably would have startled me and I would have brushed it away without thinking.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas
You might want more info, and I am sorry to like to tell stories!!
It is normal to find young birds in the spring who can't fly well yet and you pick them up before a cat or a hen finds them. As soon as you pick them up, they tend to stay in your hand even if they could try to get away. You take them home (illegally of course, but our yard is 7-8 acres so....) you give them water to drink with a syringe and food too directly in their mouth just like their parents would. They imprint themselves on you right away because - hey - comfort! You can set up a bit of a nest too on some shelf with plenty of newspaper under, maybe add a branch or two that they can hold on to (it's more comfortable than a flat place), especially when they sleep. They don't even need a cage at that point.
During the day, you can make them sit on your shoulder and go about your chores, but in the case of that crow, she preferred my head. We gave her plenty of flying lessons, launching her off the terrace, with a goalie under for her safety. She could glide but not quite fly and her landings were terrible, Feet and wings in the wrong position, just like a Boing Dream Liner. She landed like a slinky, rolling over a couple of times. This is why I was happy that a magpie got involved and gave her proper lessons. They both disappeared from sight in a few days, going higher and higher in the air.
I remember taking one of those birds for a bath in my bathroom. I had plenty of bubbles and at some point lowered my whole head in the water. The bird dropped from the stick I had put over the bathtub for her and plunged into the foam, found my knee and came back up. She was really into the bubbles while I washed myself and then I blew dry her feather, which was another thing she enjoyed. We both smelled good.
@Fradiga What an amazing story. 🥰 I will remember this if I ever come across a baby bird in distress. I would be able to have a more mindful approach now.
@Fradiga awwww you were a great bird mamma💖
@Fradiga ❤️❤️
@Fradiga 😂😂😂😂😂 that's sooo cute
I cherish the photos of my mom and me when we were so close. I can still hear the laughter and the warmth of those mornings on the back deck, soaking up the sun, sipping coffee, and having delightful conversations about anything and everything. My mom passed away in 2011, just before my sister's birthday on July 22, and I miss her dearly. She was an extraordinary mom who taught me so much about the beauty of letting go and embracing others for who they are, rather than how we wish they could be. She would often say to live like Mother Teresa and Jesus, reminding me that everyone has their own struggles and perspectives. It’s a wonderful lesson in understanding, realizing that it’s not about you but how others navigate their paths in life. Those memories bring a smile to my face!
@soulsings my nanny accepted me just as I was, and never asked for more, she loved me unconditionally and when she passed, she took more than a small piece of my heart with her, so I cherish her photo ♥️
@Amanda84 oh that is such an endearing story.
