Sitting for a long time can lead to serious health problems like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

How do you incorporate movements to break up your sitting time?

@amiablePeace77

I make sure if I'm sitting that I get up every half an hour and move around.

I try to incorporate walking into my daily routine 😊

@amiablePeace77

I don't right now...except for the packing.  Once I move, I plan to walk in the neighborhood.

@amiablePeace77   How do you incorporate movements to break up your sitting time?

One recommendation I read says to get up from computer every 20 minutes and look for 20 seconds at something 40 feet or more away. That helps.

Sedentary lifestyle can be hard. I like to take breaks and walk around or stretch. Or even move my body, arms and legs, while I'm seated. Facial exercises are just as necessary.

Due to difficulties walking around and getting tired of sitting around, my next move is lying down 😊

Today is particularly difficult.

@Fradiga Sorry to hear about your mobility limitations.

I try doing something with my mind while lying down.

@soulsings

Thanks for caring!

Well, I read a ton of articles if I am not asleep.

@Fradiga. Audiobooks can be nice when resting too.

@Fradiga I use a reader that converts text or web pages to voice. Sometimes that puts me to sleep!

@soulsings and @adventurousBranch3786

Maybe due to my generation, I prefer reading because of my own rhythm. If a voice reads to you (or for instance a podcast), you cannot really slow up or speed up the contents.

This is why, when I need help, I do not want to sit on a YouTube video which takes 10 mns or more when I can read the result of my search in 30 seconds flat with text. I feel like a hostage otherwise.

There are podcasts videos to which I listen daily, and I adjust the playback speed for several because the speaker has a slow debit, for instance. Others because they just speak too fast.

I’ll get up and walk around or dance as if I’m on stage with a song/playlist of songs playing in the background.

@amiablePeace77

I recommend using tables that can be elevated so that you force yourself to stand up.

I've also seen people have mini treadmills under their desk so that they can walk while studying/working!

@wonderfulDreamer1791 that sounds like a good idea for people that can stand a long time

@amiablePeace77 using a Pilates ball instead of regular chair. Table over treadmill for a bit.

@laylaembodiedmind

That's a great idea to use a Pilates ball instead of a regular chair! It can help improve your posture and make your core muscles stronger.

I can totally relate. I sit for longer periods than I should and then my quads get tight and it makes it difficult to walk. Plus, I’m overweight which doesn’t help. I have an app on my phone that sends a message to move.

@agreeableShade4304

Great idea to use an app to remind you to stand up and walk around!
