Wistful that the summer is gone, but happy there are still warm days, before winter comes.
@Lauren63 I feel that way too. Before while there are warm days I dread their passing. Now the leaves are falling off the trees and we are having cooler nights, I am starting to accept that summer is over and prepare myself for the inevitable winter months.
What gives you comfort during the possibly long winter?
I read and study more and try to make good use of my time.
I don’t know. Everything is new because I retired at the end of May. This winter I probably will not dread as much as in the past. I know I don’t have to go to work in any kind of weather anymore, so that helps.

@Amanda84 it sounds like you live in the upper latitudes if it is dark most of the time. Here we hav maybe 10 hours of sunshine a day but will be only 6-7 in December.
If you like sad songs, Autumn Leaves is a song about someone who has lost someone and the falling leaves bring back their memory. I lost my dad in October 9 years ago and that makes this time of year a little more challenging.

@soulsingsI love autumn...it feels like a fresh start, a new beginning. i love all the colours of the trees, because they are so bright and cheerful and help with the grey days.

Autumn here is cold evenings and mornings. Frost on the ground. The afternoons get a little warmer. The tree leaves have been changing color for weeks and are starting to fall more and more. I don't like the early darkness because it makes the nights seem longer.
In all honesty, I don't like autumn but yet I don't dislike it either. It's a nice break from the summer heat but I prefer warmer temperatures and I know that autumn is just a precursor to what's ahead. I don't like winter at all.
@mytwistedsoul I feel colder in the winter and have to dress warmer. I am a shorts and Tshirts person so winter is not my favprote.
@soulsings Same! Once that cold sets in it seems to creep into my bones. I'm definitely more of a T-shirt and shorts person. Winter coats feel so constricting!
It’s hot all year where I live . I like autumn because the heat is a little less in autumn and winter.

Well, usually temperate weather, but somewhat more high and lows these past few years climate wise. September feels like a cooler summer and October is when trees start showing colour and wait for the next wind gust to lose their leaves. It rains more, sometimes for days on end. The nights being longer, it is also colder at night, but can reach the high 60sF or 20C in the afternoon. Last roses and ivy bloom.
Autumn was my favourite time of the year (late 50s-early 60s) for two reasons: Going back to school with new books, a leather pencil case and maybe a new leather schoolbag too. The SMELL of the new books, notebooks, purple ink, blotting paper, leather, and even my uniform were the source of a lot of happiness. We also covered our books with my father on some Sunday afternoon with craft paper, adding labels with glue (smell of glue!) and all that. I loved the sisters in the convent and was also looking forward to seeing them again, even if they did not have any particular scent.
And then my birthday was also around the corner, so I looked forward the walnut and chocolate cake with crème anglaise my mum would make and the gift that came with it. I still remember the red leather sewing box I got one year, otherwise, it usually was (again) a collection of books.
By now, I pretty much enjoy any season. My laptop and phone are the same year-round, and my birthday insignificant.

Snow? It is rather rare and never deep, as it was in NY or Québec. However, since winter is usually a humid season, we often have a good layer of frost in the pastures. There is a tad more snow up in the hills however, and about a hour drive away, there is a good skiing resort in the central mountains of France.
