My instincts tend to be hit or miss. Case in point: last night my instincts were telling me my On-Again/Off Again BF/Ex was up to something and I was furious and upset and in tears over it, but I didn't confront him entirely. Just told him off. This morning I found out there was no way he could have done what I suspected. Except now my foot's in my mouth. I said some things that were true but at the same time I don't feel they can be taken back. Yet there are other times when my instincts on him are spot on. sad

@CleopatraElizabethI I'm struggling with the same thing. I don't know what to trust myself about anymore, even when I have evidence. When I'm in one of my moods, I can feel like I have evidence when I don't, so it's hard to figure out when to trust myself. We'll probably (hopefully) figure it out eventually, though!

@huggerofcats

We will. I've started working on not jumping to conclusions all the time, and I think that will be a big factor in helping myself out with my instincts.

Yes. They have not yet been wrong!

It depends. In some situations I do...however I find more often than not these "instincts" are muddied with nervous energy and anxiety...so they alter how I pecive things.

I don't really trust my instincts. My personal experience has been that my mind is more reliable than my instincts.

I trust my instincts, but not my first reactions. My first instinct may say my boss wants more work from me, my first reaction may say I'm a waste and should just quit. It's taken a long time to learn to shut out my first reactions.

@underyourbreath That is sooo true for me as well. I always give myself a bit to calm down before unleashing initial reactions to things because I know I'm not always thinking rationally.

I trust my instincts more than my first reaction, as my first reaction/guess may be wrong, but I won't trust my instincts. However, my instincts have saved me many times in many different situations.

@krissylynn2 did you have a bad experience not trusting your instincts?

When I meditate regularly, eat a cleaner diet, exercise and stay sober, my instincts and intuition are so clear it scares me. Once I knew I would win this game if I played and I won a huge prize. I knew when I was pregnant after having a dream. I knew before my grandmother passed away that she was dying but that she was ok with it and she'd be ok after. Another time I knew my boyfriend had cheated on me, even though he lied. Sometimes I just get a feeling and I just know. But not always. I think we all have that ability to tap into a connection with each other and the Earth, but we muddy up the screen with wrong thoughts and wrong actions and we cant see whats right in front of us.

Then again my instinct tells me I'm hungry a lot more often than it probably should.

I do. I, for one, have been through a LOT of things in my little twenty-six year life, and they have honed me enough to keep me safe, healthy and happy. I have no reason to not trust them - they have kept me alive this long. While I DO have bad instincts, ones that have led me into dark alleys, into hands of someone I shouldn't have been with, they are still life's lessons. I learned from them and I got better. I understand more about how to avoid these things.

@Cyprinn

My anxiety issues make it way too difficult to be able to trust even myself.

@adaptablePapaya6931 - I DO understand how you feel. 80% of the time, anxiety tries to get the best of me. Especially trying new things... it sets alarms off in my entire body. It gets better, my friend.

@Cyprinn

I sincerely hope so. I'm 31 and it only seems to get worse.
