There are real fears of real dangers, and everyone seeks to protect themselves from external threats. Please don't go on a date in a dark alley ... I think previous experiences leave us with a sense of "raising the shield", or not wanting to "play the game" for some time. Reflective breaks are great, no-date breaks too. Then you can do gradual experiments, don't call them dates, maybe explorations for more fun. Expectations or perfectionisms can be images that appear in our mind, they are anticipations, perhaps they have the positive intention of avoiding intolerable suffering, what is suffering or fear on a date? Wanting to impress by being perfect? Enjoy your learning curve. To think that something is totally a mistake, would be labeling a behavior in back and white ... I did "x" then I am ... It sounds short but it is a label, people are more than their actions and the openness to enjoy Life, includes knowing the imperfections of others, each person cares about their own navel. I wish that your next date be a little more enjoyable and exciting :)
