Rediscovering self love
Self love is not practice or that w are taught that growing up. We are born with the ability to love ourselves. We4 arefaced in our lives with: lack of love, self respect and self worth. When we hear the wrod no or are told your wrong or this is how it is suppose to be done we begin to question our ability to think .
When we are young we are told to put the opinion of others before ours, then as a teenager we begin to see how we are and are to truly see ourselves as we want to be then as we get older when stripped of our self love we try to take it back and be who we truly are ourselves.
It may take our whole lives for self love but people should be able to be who they are without bullying them into what others want them to be. People should take care of themselves rather worry about what others may feel or say to them. Self love is different in everyone.
What does self love mean to you?
Here are some examples:
- Prioritizing yourself
- be true to yourself
- be nice to yourself
- take breaks from work and stress to do somethng nice for ourself
- Examples of practicing self love:
- be mindful- know what you want how your wanting to feel
- practice good self care- eat healthier, sleep well and healthy soical interactions with others.

Thanks for this amazing post! I am working on this "self love" as fully embracing an authentic empathic approach to my whole being. I struggle with loving myself so I was so happy that this popped up in my notifications!
I wasn’t taught self love as a child and was mostly driven by my mother and g mother’s guilt. Doing for oneself was considered selfish, and sefishness was bad.
However, I’ve learned that this is not true. Through meditation, yoga, and reading, I’ve discovered that self-love looks like taking care of myself. I take myself to the movies, to painting class, I take baths, I focus on me more, which makes me happier. When we vibrate happiness, others can’t help but notice. It’s thrilling, actually.
When gloomy times come, and they do, self-care means helping yourself get through to the other side because I love myself more than anyone else does. I need me! I am my own best advocate. I can reach out if I need to, and I can self-care, too!
I’ve learned that doing too much for others can deplete me, and I hate that feeling. I do more for me now. I take more walks, notice nature more, I breathe, and I have boundaries I never had before. This truly makes me feel better knowing I am my best friend. I’m not perfect at it yet, but I’ve noticed a huge change in how I feel about me. I’m not as down on myself anymore. 😊
@yardcarrot
Thank you for your beautiful share. I appreciate the hard work that it takes to move on from lessons we learned as children to build a better and healthier future for ourselves. So glad to have you here. Keep up the hard work! I hope you find it gets easier and self-love pours over you.💐
@pamharley003
I must say it is a complicated topic for some of us.
Not stating that I hate myself or anything of the sort.
But am stating that "Are we loving ourselves?" "Are we loving ourselves enough?" "Are we neglecting others to much to love ourselves?" "What is Love?"
I know I can struggle
@Barltik2065@Barltik2065
This is a really important thing and to avoid toxic positivity we need to include these questions, I'm glad you are bringing up this sometimes neglected portion of discussions of self-love. It is hard to move away from seeing our needs in a negative light. How are you coping with this?
@broadfemmelovelive
While you have great questions and may very well have great points with truth behind it.
My struggle is, as my therapist says, I am emotionally undeveloped.
While my experiences have helped me to read others (sometimes). I on the hand have learned (through the decades) have come to a conclusion, am very poor and reading myself.
While I will say, I am fine, and think I am fine. Others will say I am lying to myself or neglecting myself. or am self destructive. But internally I will be like "Really?" or "I disagree" or "Where did you come to this conclusion?" "I don't see it".
And I will then come to the conclusion "this is illogical and unimportant" then I will move on.
@Barltik2065
I am so glad to hear you are working with a therapist to understand these very hard self-reflection questions. If you ever need another set of ears, I hope you will read my profile and please book an appointment with me. Only if you think that would be a support that would work for you. Thanks again for bringing up this point. ❤️
@pamharley003
excellent post! my definition of self-love is the ability to identify with your own unique personality, character, talents, abilities and belief systems. everyone can love themselves for these reasons, but if someone is having trouble loving themselves, i think 7 Cups is a great place for them to talk about it!
doing what feels right x
@pamharley003
Is very hard for me to choose love. To let things go. To believe I have worth. For decades now have been working on it without any change.
Some things I've done or am doing are:
- Meditating
- journaling
- counselling
- medication
- support groups
- Self study
- skin care routine
- hitting the gym almost daily
- lists
- apps (Gratitude, Finch, Headspace, Fabulous)
- being vegan
- being vegetarian
- feng shui
- primal screaming
- writing poetry
- colouring or other art
- Caring for the environment
- limited social media
- education
- Workbooks (Mindful Self Compassion, DBT, etc.)
- reading (The mountain is you, etc.)
- healing cards
- following intuition
- learning to listen
- learning to forgive
- learning to be kind to myself
- helping others (RAOK, etc.)
- reading ingredients
- setting goals
- letting myself fail
- learning to rest vs giving up
- learning to communicate
anyway. Not sure if I'll ever heal at this point. If none of this is working then i'm pretty sure it's pointless haha
Self-love..
a very simple word yet complex to do so.
For me, it is nurturing oneself physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
It is by having a self-care in order to build and establish a good foundation of oneself before venturing out to external environment.
@pamharley003
I’ve often heard it said that you cannot share from an empty cup. Therefore self-love to me is taking time to refill my cup BEFORE it runs. For me that means sleep, meditation, spirituality, yoga, dancing, exercise, music (listen or playing), coloring, baths, play.

@LovingPeacefulHeart
Such relaxing ways to fill your cup, Heart, I agree with you on being mindful to refill our cup. Thanks for tagging me!❤
@LovingPeacefulHeart good idea fill your cup and then fill other's cups.
Making someone happy.
Self love ❤️ is definitely an internal voice that speaks to you as you would a friend! It is the moments of JOY big or small that makes you smile or appreciate the people the moments in your life. 💕 self care for me being positive … it is my superpower!☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Why did you spill the coffee?
"Because someone bumped into me!!!"
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.
So, we have to ask ourselves... “What's in my cup?"
When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?
Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?
Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.
Filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others and self.
@SunShineAlwaysGrateful
I'm like this cup idea of yours! ;) <3
Welcome 💕💕 it is a famous one and I love it.
