Dinner With Our Alumni: GoldenNest2727

Hi everyone! I am here with another exciting interview with @GoldenNest2727! For those that don't know, Dinner With Our Alumni is a series of small interviews that I conduct with 7 Cups Academy alumni to know more about their journey in the program. This post is dedicated to the Content Development and Marketing (CDM) Program! The aim is to spread more awareness about the program and hope everyone gives it a read!

So who is GoldenNest2727? Golden has been a member here since October 2021. Outside of 7 Cups, they are a ghostwriter and an Army veteran. They love houseplants and gardening!

What was on the menu? Nothing! The interview was so good, we forgot about food! :o

Without further ado, here's Golden for you:

What made you join the CDM program?

I joined the CDM program because I enjoy writing, and I saw it as an opportunity to challenge myself to improve my craft. I also haven't taken a marketing class since I graduated from college, so it's been ages. I thought it would be a great way to brush up on social media marketing.

How was your experience doing the program?

I had a great experience!

Which was your favorite activity in the program?

I learned the most from engaging with social media marketing. I soaked it all in and enjoyed applying what I'd learned to create new graphics and posters for 7 Cups. That was a fantastic part of the course.

How did you enjoy writing an article?

I'm a professional ghostwriter, so this might sound strange, but I found the writing part to be the toughest. I wasn't expecting that. I've written parts of textbooks, I've been published in scholarly journals, I've gone viral as a mommy blogger, - but never as myself. I've always used another person's voice. It's their background, their personality, their belief system, their brain, and often their ideas. You take on your client's traits when you’re writing. Then all of a sudden, I needed to write as me. Even though I still used a pseudonym, I found it hard to find MY voice.

What advice would you give to a new CDM trainee?

Reach out to your mentors if you need advice or just want to run something by them. The CDM program has some amazing mentors who are helpful and super friendly.

What are some new things you learned about content through the coursework? How did you enjoy creating graphics for the program?

How to best word graphics on Instagram and Twitter so that they encourage engagement. I learned all about the call to action.

How can mentors better offer support for the program?

I found it useful overall. The mentors are hands-on and invested in the students. I definitely felt supported.
